So Rear echelons in house with volley fire activated against sturms in white cover right outside the house.
Even after 10 seconds the sturms were not surpressed.

So is it bugged?

Its extremely weak ability, it will never suppress anything that is in any kind of cover and for it to be more effective you need to have BAR or M1919 on RETs.

The only way Volley Fire is ever worth anything is if the REs are firing at a squad that isn't engaging them - like I'll *try* to use it if there is are Sturms charging my Riflemen hoping the suppression will kick in to turn the engagement. Even then the suppression is so low that it's not guaranteed. Otherwise the accuracy penalty is so high that the REs die in 2 seconds if they get targeted.

The ability use to be good back around WFA release where REs actually could beat Strums as they would suppress them in early fights combine that with the REs being USF's counter to Kubels and RE spam was the most viable build for a bit.

Now the ability is almost always useless except for in very specific circumstances. It makes the already fragile RE squad even more fragile and they drop like flies with it in, in general, it's not worth it.

This ability is rather hard to balance. Imo it should scale with veterancy (and most other abilities also).

You can't suppress enemy troops with REs, especially when they are armed with their default weapons. I recently saw VonIvan doing it against OKW, and he was like "omg, the meme is real". Volley fire is effective (it's questionable) when REs are armed with LMG or BAR.

You can kinda use it against no vet volks or grens at close range in the early game. Maybe 60/40 chance it works, which is a lot better than normal REs. It suppresses pretty well when you get bars on the REs, but at that point barred REs will probably kill them anyways so the damage reduction isn't worth the time or muni.

It's hard to balance the ability considering they are on the cheapest unit in the faction and being able to suppress whenever you want would be monstrously OP.

It isnt volley fire itself that is bugged.
It´s when you enter a building or a vehicle, that volley fire gets cancelled.

Is this intended or a bug?

Moving after using the ability cancels it. Personally, I find the ability is best used early in the game against pioneers. Usually pioneers will run up to the RE squad and win the engagement. If you use volley fire once the engagement starts, the pios will be suppressed (you even rarely pin them) by the time they close in. Also, the RA penalty doesnt matter in this situation since pios wont be doing any damage until they close in anyway.
