Would it be possible to change the attack ground mechanic so you can order a unit to attack ground even if the unit is not in range of the target?
Because I often find it annoying when I for instance want my mortar to attack a spot (with barrage still on cool-down) but its just out of range, meaning I have to order the mortar to move closer, wait for it to pack up, move closer, and then give the order to attack ground.
is this possible and are there any negative consequences to this change?

Isn't there another command next to attack ground that does that already? I might be wrong I can't remember what it's called

The way I found around it was to use the barrage ability to gauge your mortar's range (not to fire it, just to see that circle), though it still isnt 100% accurate.

yeah, this is super stupid, and only shows how much little experience Relic have with RTSes in general.
As far as I remember even in warcraft 2 this is not an issue.

Oh come on, this is a small QoL thing, not some central pillar of RTS design. There are always little QoL things missing in any game. I do agree that it should be changed though.
