such bullshit, you can take a famous wehrmach commander like Rommel who was one of the best panzer commander and in the same time tried to assasinate hitler.

no one is going to say that rommel was nazi..

And many other games made a german solo, like the recently released STEEL DIVISION where you can take control of 21 PANZER in normandy and push back the americans out of france.

there is absolutely no reason, except being lazy, to only do an allies campaign.

The way I see the one sidedness of games depicting WWII (for example, no German campaign in any COD series, Coh2, etc) is just propaganda that still to this day says Allies = good, Germans = bad.

Lol. I like playing German campaigns but you're kidding yourself if you think that Axis= bad was simply propaganda.

I am not going to wish for DoW3's downfall. Relic is one of the few companies making RTS and if they fail, it's bad for us as fans.

I hope they fix DOW3's issues and get the money they need to support all of their games.

Wow.

While games that depict WWII deliberately try to distance the German military from Nazism (perhaps in part due to Nazi symbolism laws in some countries like Germany and Poland, for example), it's hard to do that. Steel Division has two SS divisions, and coh even has "Stormtroopers" which isn't exclusively a Nazi-German thing but has extremely close ties w/ Nazi Germany.

It's not propaganda that the Germans are depicted negatively.

Germany invaded Europe. Like, almost all of Europe. It's hard to sympathize with an occupying and invading force.
The Waffen SS did commit war crimes despite it being the military arm of the SS. The whole "Waffen SS didn't commit war crimes" was post war apologist literature propagated by former SS officers who didn't want to be tried for war crimes after the war (there were a series of Nazi-related trials before and after the Nuremberg trials).

Also, certain Wehrmacht units helped the Einsatzgruppen and police forces commit atrocities in the USSR, either directly or indirectly by providing munitions and logistical support. A lot of those units ended up being encircled in Stalingrad in '43 so they couldn't be tried.
Many high ranking Wehrmacht officers knew of the Wehrmacht's assistance of the SS in committing atrocities in the USSR.

And this isn't mentioning the reprisal actions taken against civilians for wounded/killed occupying German soldiers in Western Europe.

Basically, the Wehrmacht contributed, both directly and indirectly, to the killing of innocent civilians and the Holocaust during Nazi Germany's occupation of Europe.

It's not propaganda that Nazi Germany was bad.

Sorry, Mistah S.

With some historical knowledge you can see that Coh1 already managed to tell the story of SS-member Michael Wittmann in the Tiger Ace campaign and General Walther Model in the Market Garden campaign (which they morphed into one person). They just didn´t mention politics.

During the German campaign "Generalmajor Voss" is informed that the Allied plans for Market Garden have been found and the soldiers discuss that this might be a trick and that the Allies might want to capture the General. That is 100% the situation Walther Model was in at the beggining of Market Garden.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DSy34-zieI#t=02m10s.

Thus it´s evident that you can make a campaign about Germans and even real soldiers without glorifying the Nazis.

Btw guys, the numbers are not that shocking when you look up the player count for DoW2. Clearly, this has lots to do with less popular franchise.

The singleplayer is average at best in both quality and length. The multiplayer is rife with Relic's trademark one click insta-kill bullshit.

Of course the numbers will drop off after they finished the campaign.

Waffen-SS could actually make a good background for a German campaign.
Present them as indoctrinated fascist and show how their beliefs are shattered in the face of the superior T34 and KV1, adding Ukrainian and other clarly non-aryan soldiers to their ranks, and showing the inner conflicts between men who joined because they want to be soldiers or are Nazis or are forced to fight.
Then add some hardcore defense-missions to show the losses of the SS and how they were 'used' and add the conflict between Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht for recruits and equippment.
That should do its part to debunk all the 'SS is the glorious aryan army'-oppinions and to show the differences between propaganda and reality.

Invissed two posts, one for off-topic and the other for quoting it.

I think this thread has run its course.
