Think what you want, but there's a reason why CS has been a very long lasting and successful competitive game, and why COH2 has never been :)

Yeah, FPS being one of most popular and easiest to get into genre of all times...

I know shitty FPS games that lasted for years, while pretty fun RTS games died within a month of release(grey goo anyone?).

Grey Goo was awesome. New faction got introduced for free, dev actually play the game and not the circus that is currently COH2. Too bad there were so few players and it was kinda overshadowed by SC2.

Its never to late to join.

And you're not looking for a game for a long time because there is few players, but because last patch relic has changed matchmaking algorithm, so it now looks longer to find opponent of your skill instead of quicker games, but big skill difference between players.

First 10 games are placement games, you'll be matched against both, noobs and pros to evaluate your skill.

You end up where you really should be after about 20 games.

So you pretty much have to go through newbie period, like everyone before you.
It gets harder if you just played comp stomps as people play completely different way in mp.

Takes time to get used to and if you don't enjoy 1v1, try 2v2.

I'm actually impressed by this Katitof :P

Yes but CSGO is an esport and COH2 is not, for the reasons I stated earlier, that CSGO combines complex team strategy with balance... doesn't matter that they're different genres.
It is different because an RTS team strategy is drastically different than an FPS team strategy.

It's like comparing a T-34 to a Mustang. I don't see why you are trying to make comparison like that if they're really different because of genres.

Now if you compare Starcraft II (An esport RTS btw) to COH2, now you could state that the comparison between the two games because they both have similar features. (Resources, plans, build orders, etc...) Just one has Esports while the other does not.

Swiftsabre: This is the last I'll post something off topic.

Checked that out, I'm actually impressed with what they did to the game. If only beta gun sounds were more BOOM BOOM instead of pew pew.

There is a reason for that.
FPS, you can go into a coma, come back, and pick up back up after 20 minutes.
RTS just has too many elements to remember/think of, and gets too frustrating for average Joe, hence he quits or goes back to CS

Bleh, this game is apparently way too complex for me. Despite my terrible stats I still get matched against people that roflstomp me. The same thing happens over and over again, I start out well, then the enemy gets back into the game through superior tactics and wins. My initial impression seems to hold: you either were here from the beginning or you're fodder.

You jsut need to invest alot of time in 1) watching replays/casts/streams to learn the meta and how use to units 2) play alot to get the mechanical skill. Its really really time consuming that's all

It just takes some practice. Within 2-3 weeks you could easily be average to above average if you practice the important things.

I think it's time I tried some other factions. Ostheer just doesn't seem to fit my playstyle.

Uh yeah...that. Think what you want, but there's a reson why I have 38 min with CSGO and 1535 hours of CoH2.

It might be worth finding a partner to practice with, he/she can then also tell you what you did wrong and it might not be so depressing to lose to someone you know and maybe even like Kappa.

Grey Goo ? Fun ?

It was an unfinished game, launched with no replays, poorly optimized, with horrible servers problems, drop hack was so easy to to that ladder was hilarous, all this for 60 Euros

If a game die, thats for reasons.

I didn't got it at release, but some time after, right now it has all of that+pretty good replay player with all you need to actually cast games, improved balance, free expansion with 1 new unit for every army that actually is unique and fun in role and use and whole new army for 28 euro permanently right now.

GG suffered same problems as CoH2, except it wasn't an established IP and lack of marketing wasn't really a plus either and still isn't.

Right now? The game is really fun RTS for people who weren't born as koreans and doesn't force you to melt your brain on managing builder units.

Wehrmacht is IMO currently the hardest faction to play as you have to micro your units very well. There is no possibility of a blob of doom as it is with OKW/USF and the tanks are very cost intensive along with teching and building the buildings.

Wehr (I prefer calling it Ostheer) has by far the hardest time against some Allied strategies (e.g. British Hardcore Emplacements) and the metagame revolves all around the pay2win commanders. The ones you get for free are simply not good. There is not a single commander that is nearly as good as the premium ones.

I've had the exact opposite experience as far as it being the hardest to play.. My ostheer has won me the most games proportionally and is my best rank consequentially (also my only decent rank in 1v1).

holy pudding, you played the entire campaign? Props to you man! and since you have some masochist wish I recommend you playing soviets since Its the most painfully faction to play right now.

Thx for sharing your experience. Constructive feedback from new players can help developers and the community to understand the obstacles that prevent COH from growing in popularity.

IMO, with a decent mentor and COH guides, new players can learn the game much more quickly than uncoached players.
Yes, COH2 have a steep learning curve but it flatlines much earlier than SC2 that has a pretty extreme skill ceiling. COH2 emphasis decision making without necessarily dumbing the game down.

Starcraft 2 fans speak up against ‘fast-paced action’ of Void of the Legacy
I’ve explained here how (someone who works at Blizzard informed me) that during testing of Starcraft 2 there was a joke setting speed. Yet, this became the ‘default speed’ of the game to the surprise of many there. We can only speculate as to why Starcraft 2 is so fast. Perhaps it is to make the game more ‘exciting’ for e-sports? Maybe it is related to Dustin Browder who got much acclaim at designing Red Alert 2 to have fast gameplay compared to the slow as molasses Tiberian Sun. Either way, Starcraft 2 is MUCH MUCH faster than Starcraft 1. The game is very stressful as a result.

In the video for the Closed Video for Legacy of the Void (a fitting name to the end of the Starcraft 2 trilogy: a legacy of nothingness), the announcer speaks of ‘exciting ways to make the game even more fast paced for more micro opportunities’!

The comments are amazing. Let’s take a look:

The NUMBER ONE upvoted comment says:

I think Blizzard misses the point when intentionally making units or unit responses “more micro intensive”

Micro is going to happen regardless. Rather than build a fun game with potential for exploitation, they give us a game with a very high-end ceiling that requires an extreme amount of mechanics to be adept at. The result is that more casual gamers have scared away from the game.

SC:BW wasn’t designed to be more micro-intensive, it just worked out that way.
-SNIP-

For many hardcore SC2 players, the "metagame" for casual RTS players have remained a mystery like a laser pointer and the red dot is to a kitten.
