For someone who has no clue about the rules, what happens in a such case?

If the spectator reached over the fence in to the playing field then the batter would be called out. If the ball crosses over the top of the fence both player and spectators are allowed to catch. So in that case it is foul ball and batter stays on.

I have lived in Kansas City my entire life and have endured the worst of the worst of the baseball world. I am 24 years old and the Royals have had TWO winning seasons in my lifetime. This postseason has the entire city in a frenzy, I've never seen it like this. Everywhere you go, people are talking about the royals, the fountains around the city are blue, and everyone is on board. The Royals have become Americas team, and I can't wait for the ALCS!
