I think they're fine as they are, as minelayers first and foremost, and flankers / combat troops second. I had a squad that was instrumental in this game, and their relative vulnerability didn't prove an issue until they got stuck on retreat late in the game, long after they paid for themselves.

1 man at vet 2 is probably just enough of a buff for them. MAYBE less received accuracy but it could only be a tiny buff.

change demo to timed demo (normal demo is dumb anyway) and 5th man at vet 2.
Agree there. I have been abusing players with soviet demo charges lately in VP circles. Pretty much a guaranteed squad wipe if there are 4 models or less in squad. A timed charge would make it more of a skill weapon rather than click boom as soon as the enemy walks by.
