Manfred von Richthofen, also known as the red baron, in early 1918. He was the most famous ww1 fighter ace that developed squad tactics and together with Immelmann the two developed tactics that were used during the Luftwaffe and Allied airforces during ww2. Manfred believed and preached upon always having a wingman nearby, attacking from the sun and never getting too greedy for a kill. Irony has it that on the day that he died, April 21st 1918, he didn't attack from the sun, he left his wingman to attack an enemy plane solo and chased an enemy for a longer duration than he would normally have. Even the best of aces make human errors :)

Eeer, you sure about that?

As far as I know, it was an allied soldier (Australian I believe), that shot at his plane while he was doing reconnaissance, and managed to score a point blank shot to the heart.

Maxim in Russian imperial army.

First Maxims were introduced into the army in 1888, in 1891-1892 it was converted to 7.62-mm standart Russian ammo. At first it was treated like artillery and was equipped with massive platform and shield with total weight about 250kg.

In 1910 it was modernized and equipped with A.A.Sokolov gun carriage, which allowed to reduce total weight to 63kg.
