As you watch, try to keep an informal tally on who's losing more squads, positions etc. Often the deciding factor in a game is whose squads have been sapped away.

The mark of a veteran player is who has the most squads with the most vet mid game. Lategame it gets too easy to lose squads due to any number of reasons, but midgame, a player whose units are in good repair, with good veterancy is likely to not have played an extremely strong game, but continue to play an extremely strong game. I've played 2v2 randoms where my teammate loses squads constantly, whilst I end up with piles of veteran infantry. Being the player with that infantry allows you to carry the game quite effectively given a bit of luck.

just remember it takes a while to actually get familiar with the game, specially now that there are 4 factions and another one is coming.
Don't get disappointed, play all factions (if you have them) every now and then to learn their pros and cons, and watch replays and live games.

+1. I miss Krebs, I still watch some of his older vCoH casts... Good Ol' Days.

I have played all factions by now, and I must say my favorite is the Ostheer, I like the faction and its design. The Americans and Soviets I find the best. OKW I find very hard to master. I have watched some casts and also the stream of Siberian. He is very kind and actually started commentating on his decissions and strategy during a livestream when I asked if he would like to do that.

I like this community so far.

I think for the first year and a half that I played CoH2, I ONLY played as Ostheer –– they've got a special place in my gamer heart, for sure. Now I play USF/USSR much more heavily, but one of my favorite experiences is when I roll out an occasional Ostheer game and fall in love with the Panzer 4 all over again; great unit, and when paired with Blitzkrieg and Smokescreen, great fun.
