You mean the online player numbers as interpreted by people in this thread who think 5,000 players at one time means 5,000 players a day means 5,000 players total right?

So:

If someone owned Core Game in 2013 and bought AA and/or WFA then that is not a sale because the Core Game is already on the system

If someone buys Core Game, AA and WFA in the period in question, that equals 1 sale.


So really that is 4 million game sales, not Commanders, Skins or anything else and WFA/AA don't get double or triple counted

That's my understanding at least, based on what they describe. It's also important to note that they're sampling around 750,000 accounts and extrapolating that out to total sales figures. That's a pretty damn big sample size, so the estimate is going to be pretty accurate, but it's still something to consider.

If I'm right about how they're calculating their figures, that means 4 million new accounts gained the ability to play CoH2 in some capacity since April 4, 2014 (my birthday! Woot woot!). I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

Last month, Dota 2 had 11,057,086 unique players and averaged 628,970.41 concurrent players per day. That's a ratio of 17.58:1; CSGO, which is the only other game I could find with monthly unique player counts, had a ratio of 23.83:1. If we extrapolate that to CoH2 and average the ratio to 20:1, that gives us 109,430 unique players in February. It's not much compared to the top Steam games, but it's more than the average player numbers might make it look like at first glance.

Funnily enough at certain times there are more people playing Warcraft III than there are playing coh2.

Warcraft III came out 12 years ago.

Good to see that CoH-franchise is making money (or at least seems to).

But it looks like, sadly, most players don't like the more complex game mechanics CoH2 has to offer, compared to traditioinal RTS like SC or C&C where you don't have to worry about positioning, cover, supression, etc.
Maybe Relic should work on making the game more accessible to newcomers.

You have to worry about positioning just as much in SC2 as you do in CoH honestly, just in a different way. And micro in SC2 is mechanically much more difficult because you have a lot more units and therefore need a lot more actions to micro effectively, while maintaining your macro at the same time.

SC2 is far more complex mechanically than CoH2. It's not even comparable.

But I'm speaking about the real casual level. For them getting into SC2 is easier than getting into CoH2.

Everytime we play a strategy game on a LAN, people have a hard time with CoH. But C&C or StarCraft is no problem usually. They don't need to worry about frontal armor, which direction you AT gun / HMG is facing or specialised AT etc. That's why IMO, it is easier to get into these oldschool RTS.

Getting 6-pooled, proxy 2-gated, cannon rushed, proxy 2-raxed, or 4-gated makes the game easy to get into?

When you play CoH2 you don't have to worry about economy, workers, base building, expanding, buying detection, macroing, upgrades, etc.

For a player who's never touched an RTS before, SC2 is infinitely more complex and difficult to play than CoH2 is. Saying people prefer SC2 to CoH2 because CoH2 is more complex doesn't make sense, because CoH2 isn't more complex. It's different, sure, and it's less familiar to people who are used to traditional RTS games. But it's not even close to being more complex.

Wait, so you are basically saying that we don't need fuel to build our T-34s, that our combat engies went to soviet schools so poor they can't build anything, and that tankoviy batalion is just a fake piece of painted cardboard?

I know, I know, you meant Starcraft is much more complex in these issues, but still

Last time i played CoH, i didn't have to tap every strategic point every 30s so it could give me resources. And didn't have to get more than 4 buildings (even 0 with USF) in most games.

The whole point about the CoH franchise, more so CoH2, is simplyfing all the economy/teching system to give you a more combat oriented game.

While the mechanics are basic to understand (old school type of RTS), the game has way higher roof level. On the contrary, COH, has different mechanics than the usual RTS, but once you get the deal with the game, it's easier to play.

I wonder, how did they calculate sales for F2P games, like Heroes and Generals or Warthunder. And if they did count premium packs for those games as "sales", did they also count DLC for other games as such?

It's just the number of people that have the game in their libraries. So if Warthunder shows up in your Steam library, it's being counted in these stats. That means every person who installs the game adds one to the purchased stat, and every person who uninstalls the game subtracts one from the purchased stat, since I'm pretty sure F2P games disappear from your library when you uninstall them.

More like build workers every 30s on each base you have (with some obvious considerations as if you reach optimal number of workers, rush attacks etc), if you play zerg, you have to inject larva on top of that on each of your base and spread your creep tumors through the map.

The whole point is that is worthless to consider buildings/resource gathering as something you need to worry about.
