hello guys,
i've recently purchased the coh2 and coh TWFA. i was anticipating the game so hard but when i read the reviews about how the game is pay2win and the reviews on steams were actually a let down to me. i've played original coh back when it was released and i didn't have the chance to play it a lot online due to my location and internet was terrible at that time.

with the last sale i couldn't resist biting :).. and bought the previously mentioned game and DLC.

I watched the tutorials and tired some solo missions. but i feel i need to learn a lot more before jumping into the game online.

The first thing i didn't know what it was is the the stuff i got at the top right corner when i started the game. i read the description and i understood that these are commanders who will give you access to different units. "correct me if i'm wrong"...

One last thing before i leave this post. please explain the imbalanced weapons/units the steam community was talking about.

Finally.. my apm isn't terrible and i feel i will pick up if i started playing the game. but i just don't know where to start and what should i work on first.

Check out the guides: http://www.coh2.org/guides/categories
Some of them are old and outdated, but they will all give you a good idea of where to start.

One of our old strategists made these very good videos for new players:
http://www.coh2.org/guides/17049/z3r07-s-learn-2-play-video-playlist

Watching Twitch.tv livestreams is a good way to get some tips. StephennJF and Luvnest are both very good at explaining why they do what they do, and explain as they are playing. Most of the popular streamers like to interact with their viewers and will answer any questions you have for them.

Since you are just learning at the moment, start with one faction and one build order until you become comfortable. When you are comfortable with that, try new things.

I highly recommend avoiding the balance forums, here or anywhere else. Strategy forums can have lots of good information, however :)

Finally, save replays of some of your games. You can upload them here via the replay section. If you want to ask for help, it is very useful to provide a replay!

GL HF and welcome to the site!

Welcome

Yes, I never played COH original, but here you have a choice of 3 Commanders that you can use in game

Each has 5 abilities, sometimes these are off-map strikes, sometimes units and sometimes abilities that affect your economy

The various Guides written by Community Members should help you get up to speed quickly.

The Commander Guides for Soviet and Ostheer are not quite up to date but should give you the overview.

top tip, don't use the default hotkeys but switch to the other ones (grid or classic, idk) it'll help you a lot :)

i think you guys missing the point. i've 0 experience to even know what is imbalanced and what's going on.. i will give this game some time... it's interesting. and from what i saw on twitch and here.. seems the community isn't as toxic as other online games.

Using the tactical map will help improve your unit awareness. It is default bound to numpad 0 but I recommend using autohotkey to rebind it to a more useful key.

e.g. I have mine bound to mouse button 4

#IfWinActive, Company Of Heroes 2
XButton1::Numpad0
Return

I can use my mouse softwate to bind 0 to mp 4 ... however it's not my first problem. my first problem is i'm still slow and don't know the troops flow.. i'm watching on zero's videos still.. so i will need a bit of time :)

Agreed with all of the above.

When I was just getting into the online side of CoH, I started to watch a lot of casts; they can be really useful. General Gentlemen, ImperialDane, Computerheat and Team RNG and many, many others all do some really good casts; fun to watch and you pick up a fair few tips too, especially as they often cover why certain unit choices are good in situations and why they might have chosen differently.

if you hover above the hotkeys choice you'll get an explanation. I just checked in my settings, make sure you have set them to "off". It'll make your life and your micro a hell of a lot easier !

Which faction exactly did you play and against which one? And also, if you loose to normal computer player you need more general training like positioning in cover, choosing counters to enemy units and remembering about your units more than strategy and build order. The game can be quite easily won against every computer difficulty level with strategies that have no way to work in pvp.

At some point, you have to leave AI and play against humans, many of whom may not be as proficient as the expert AI ;)

If the problem persists at that stage, try posting 1-3 of your losses in

http://www.coh2.org/forum/13/ostheer-strategies

Ask for criticisms of your play. Many members are very helpful, provided you post at least one replay of a loss, and provided it is not against AI.
