We were happy to find out that Smoking Gun Interactive, a studio founded by key members of the original COH game, was available to help us solve the first problem and we have been working with them to perform a port of COH1 to Steam, with as many of the original online features working on the new platform as possible.

It is extremely rare in the industry to maintain servers for a six year old game but we feel it is important to support our dedicated fanbase. Our long term vision for both products in this series is that we service them both with regular activity and updates.

i have only heard 1 single date: april 8th. about the ladder, i also have only heard one thing. that was that the information would be stored in some way to "honor" the people that have been playing so long blabla ===> prepare for a list of stathackers -.-

if the information we were given is still accurate, then the migration will take place some time on monday, while the whole ladder will probably be reset, since there is no more account info.

Pretty certain it will go this way. They never gave another date, other then April 8th. So expect the switch to happen on Monday. Your old accounts will probably be gone, and from now on you can only use 1 profile. And that 1 is connected to your steam profile ;)

well, anyone could have come to this conclusion, but somehow ppl don't read what relic/sega officials say, but only listen to what some random nobody in the RO Gamereplays.org chat says in between racial slurs and inaccurate history lessons MVGame

They should say that if you're caught maphacking or drophacking or synch-hacking in COH1 you will be banned from COH2 multiplayer. Just the threat of it would sort things out pretty damn fast!

We can dream.

If they did that I don't think it would be very effective as CoH2 Beta turned out to be a complete disaster, and since it's a pretty big preview to CoH2 I don't think those who hack would stop. MVGame

No-one's getting banned before they've had a chance to buy COH 2.

Maybe after :P

And what happens if we have the retail copies of the game? Are we forced into steam? Are they the retail versions still valid?

COH 1

April 8th we are hoping to have our “opt-in” version of COH1 available on Steam. Using your key for the original game, you’ll be able to download this full version, make a new account and start playing.
We’ll provide a specific list of supported online features shortly.
On May 7th the Quazal servers will shut down.
We’re investigating the possibility of creating an online archive of all the final data from the leaderboards, statistics, etc, to honor the gamers who have played so much for the last 6 years.
We will also make a tool allowing players who can no longer access Quazal to find out their key for COH1 using their login & pwd information for COH1.
The feature roadmap for COH2 will also include details on what kind of a feature release schedule we’re hoping to achieve with COH1.

People, don't download CoH on steam now by using your retail key. The new version isn't available yet and you're simply downloading a version of the game you already have :P
