Is this a bug or is it intended?

Once you detect an enemy sniper, there is a chance to misfire. Im not talking about the retreat modifier or being too close, but about detecting it with a bike/jeep and the attempt to countersnipe.
I mean what is the point of the detection of a vehicle if you cannot countersnipe realiably?
Misfiring is game deciding, because the enemy sniper can countersnipe you or you loose the bike in the process. For sure you show the enemy where your sniper is, without gaining any profit.
This is really annyoing.

It just means the sniper cloaked or moved out of range before the shot could be taken but after the sound/animation of the shot being taken was registered.

Nope. No recloak of the targeted sniper and not out of range.

No it's not a bug. You can't expect snipers to hit there targets 100% of the time cause that's not very realistic is it now?

A sniper will never misfire as long as the enemy sniper is:
1) Within range
2) Uncloacked
3) Not obstructed by any objects

Your sniper can however still miss, but it won't misfire.

Oh i guess i used the wrong term sorry. I meant my sniper fires, but misses, even if the enemy sniper is detected. That is intended?

Yes, snipers have 50% accuracy vs. moving snipers.

... and a 50% multiplier for retreating snipers...
so 25% for a sniper that is moving while retreating and 50% for a retreating sniper that is being blocked/standing still (not 100% sure on the second part, but that's theoretically how it should work)

Thats what i was looking for, thx inverse!
That means countering snipers is very luck dependend. Even if you have all tools avaiable (detection + countersniper). However if it should be like that... I mean you tech for a sniper counter and it only works 50%. Imo once you detect a sniper you should always be able to countersnipe if in range.

While it may be annoying and in some cases game-deciding, I am fine with the 50% miss chance on moving snipers.

100% hit propability makes abilities like recon run OP.

0.75x for retreating snipers IIRC, my dear sir.

can't remember, could be... same rule applies though (multiply modifier with all the other modifiers)

brit infantry sections have a 25% retreat modifier by the way (and are, iirc, the only (non-brit) unit with a retreat modifier of less than 50% ;-))
