Orders had come in that the Germans were preparing an assault to secure a local clutch of farms. In response Tanks and infantry were to conduct a counter-attack on the flank and throw back the German assault before it could cause too much trouble.

The Russians were dug in tightly between the farms. Their strongpoints fortified. They were ready for anything. The Fallschirmpanzer Division Hermann Goering brought up whatever equipment they could before they had to make the assault. Would they be able to break through ?

The british had managed a breakthrough somewhere north of where Major Dietrich and his men were situated. With orders from Division to counter-attack he roused his men and moved forwards. Hopefully in time to prevent a complete collapse of the front.

The lakes and rivers had frozen over during the night and the Americans were on the offensive. The 3rd Armoured Division struck towards a small Belgian town.
In response a small kampfgruppe was scrambled together with support from the 12th SS Panzer Division in the hopes of breaking the American spearhead and holding the town.

Every other reserve but the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division had been exhausted. So while high command was loathe to have to rely on them. They were committed to stop an assault by the 3rd Armoured Division threatening the flanks of the 3rd Panzer Corps.

The Germans had managed a counter-attack and threatened the rear of the 1st Armoured Division. The 5th Infantry Division was sent in to hold the germans advance until armoured force could be put together to crush it.
