It's not really about controlling the vp's. Focus on destroying your opponent, then you'll automatically get room for capturing the vp's on the right side.
A common used tactic as British on Angoville north is to go the left side and cut him off at his strat point.

Place first truck in center munition - far from the houses to avoid flames.
Capture right side of map (fuel, muni and VP). Capture central VP.

Leave left side of map to enemy. It will be easy to cut enemy base supplies.
Don't make emplacements (MG nests, Mortars, Boffors, ATs or even trenches).
Don't build Kangoroos either. NEVER!

Give rifle granades and Gren MGs to your tommyes. Make PIAT Sappers. Make tanks!
Keep one liutenant near yout infantry units. He will give them VET.

British looks easy for a beginer. In fact it really is. There are so few options.
But lots of people hate britsh players. Try to learn how to play as American and Wehrmatch!
Thah will be really fun!
