one of them is a smoke riflegrenade, basically a slow firing smoke grenade that pretty much puts smoke everywhere.

The other one is vet 1 and it is an anti tank riflegrenade

Smoke should be the vet ability and even then it is incredibly powerful.

The US Sherman's abilities are great, and its smoke ability is excellent and is in the same class as smoke bombs from ostheer. It makes Ostheer smoke dischargers look lackluster in comparison.

Tbh the US make OH / SU look lackluster in comparison. It worries me because they have far more utility than those two combined. If you selected every doctrine at once, you'd still be behind in some ways.

I really hope they have a plan to remedy that.

Its because SU/OH are very primitive in comparison. Americans have aspects that the core factions should have had in the first place. The balance team realizes that. Its why the core factions have to be redisgned. The new factions shouldnt have to be adjusted down to the old faction's level. The old factions should be adjusted to match up with the new factions. The new factions are more successful in design than the old ones, the core comes with old filler commander abilities that should have never taken up a slot in the commander, therefore, there is more opportunity for commanders when stinky abilities dont take up slots anymore.

Think about it. WFA took over 6 months just to design, and its heavily based on foregoing the failures in balance and gameplay of OH/SU. And now you think about it: what conditions were OH/SU designed under, again? In the game files, SU was designed somewhat after the old vCoH Americans. The core factions had problems from the start. They are the ones that need to catch up with the meta, not the new factions.

Yep but the existence of DLC commanders will make a redesign much harder

That is, unfortunately, the biggest obstacle... that will be the hardest part to overcome, but past problems would be bad to prohibit future opportunities.

Hmmm. NDA.

All I can say is that a US / Ostheer match-up is very satisfying and extremely good fun. Both have interesting pros and cons versus the other.

I'm hoping that means the old factions get something to spice them up to new faction level, but I'm not going to count on it.

US design looks much more better than orignal CoH2 armies. Looks fun I must say. To bad they stayed with commanders system :/ Redesign of soviets and ostheer would be nice, but I don't think Relic will do it.

I wonder non doctrinal US would fare against two Ostheer tigers.

Bazookamen + leftover Shermans from mid game + kiting M36s??

The relationship between Shermans and the M36 remind me of Cromwells and the Fireflies.

Yea NDA, but how the new and old factions match up is actually very fun imo.

I've played all factions against all factions, including some mirrors. OK, I'm of average skill but I've been surprised at how well the developers have segued the factions together.

The new factions are very shiny. That doesn't mean the old ones aren't. I still love the Soviets, who will shine in this new CoH2 world.

I'm starting to realize now why the Sherman has such a super duper smoke screen ability- the ability is also designed to support the M36s against heavy armor.

Keep in Mind Ostheer still has a great mortar, MG42 is uber (no sarcasm) Tiger is excellent etc etc...

I think of Soviets like Zerg in relation to the other factions, very cheap reinforce, numerous and meant to counter.

^^

The US has 30 cal. machineguns for 60 munitions at the weapons locker....I suspect that they are between maxims and Mg42s.

There is also the 50 cal. MG for the airborne.

The OKW/US have heavier weapons: manhandled pack 75mm howie/75mm infantry gun instead of mortars.

The Pathfinders are the US version of the sniper.

I don't think I saw any 57mm AT guns outside of the Airborne doctrine's paradrop AT- kind of like British in vcoh who had no moveable AT guns.
