Iwo Jima; japanese bunker demolished
"This Soviet WWII photograph was unidentified for 23 years until the man in it, Aleksey Gordeyevich Yeremenko, was recognized by his wife and children when they saw the photograph in Pravda. It remains one of the most iconic photographs of World War II. Yeremenko was a junior political officer serving with the 220th regiment of 4th Rifle Division. On July 12, 1942, the commander of his regiment fell during battle. Rallying his troops to the attack, Yeremenko stood and waved them on. Seconds after this photograph was taken, Yeremenko was shot dead."

Today In History: US Commander in Bastogne : “NUTS” to Surrender
In the town of Bastogne the 101st Airborne Division was dug in fighting a determined stand against an increasingly frustrated German spearhead. The Americans had identified elements of four Panzer Divisions, two Infantry Divisions and two Parachute Divisions amongst the forces surrounding them.
December 22 1944
To the U.S.A. Commander of the encircled town of Bastogne
The fortune of war is changing. This time the the U.S.A. forces in and near Bastogne have been encircled by strong German armored units.
There is only one possibility to save the encircled U.S.A. Troops from total annihilation: that is the honorable surrender of the encircled town. In order to think it over a term of two hours will be granted beginning with the presentation of this note. If this proposal should be rejected the German Artillery Corps and six heavy A.A. Battalions are ready to annihilate the USA troops in and near Bastogne. The order for firing will be given immediately after this two hour’s term.
All the serious civilian losses caused by this Artillery fire would not correspond with the well known American humanity. ~ The German Commander.
The reply was not long in coming

The most of Finnish tanks were outdated captured T26's. Finnish didnt have their own tank production, so they tried to get every tank scrap working.
During WW2 Finnish Army had 18 T34s. 15 T34/76s and three T34/85s.
Finland bought 15 Panzer IV J's from Germany in 1944. They were not used against USSR, because the Continuation war ended before they were ready to serve. Soviets ordered to push Germans out from Lapland. Panzer IVs were used against Germans in Lapland but they were withdrawn quickly from service. Finnish didnt want to kill Germans with the best tanks they had received from them.
The best tracked AFV Finns had was Sturmgeschütz III. Finns bought 59 of them, but only 29 were deployed. Finnish Stugs destroyed 87 Soviet tanks, while lost only 8 Stugs.
