44FPS with a 3060 Laptop

So I'm getting an average of 44 FPS in the performance test. If I turn all the graphic settings down to their lowest, it only bumps it up to 47 FPS. I find that really strange.

My Specs:
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/48866292

Intel Core i7-11370H 4 cores @ 3.3 GHz, turbo 4.4 GHz
Nvidia RTX 3060 6 GB (Laptop)
8GB SODIMM DDR4 clocked @ 3200 MHz
512GB Samsung SSD

I'm thinking that there must be some bottleneck somewhere. The RAM isn't exactly great. Could that be it ?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

I am noob.

You should run it a few times in a row to rule out caching of assets into memory.

Then you will want to turn the VERTICAL SYNC OFF in Graphical settings. It sounds like you are locked to the LCD screens refresh rate of 60 Hz and are getting a few dips during playback.

Your RAM is 3200 which is pretty solid. Should not be a major issue. You may only have a single stick so you would see some improvements by adding another stick so it runs in Dual Channel mode.

Laptops are always SLlllooooowwwwww.... no one should ever buy a laptop for games. But we don't live in a perfect world.

So I ran the performance test five times in a row with Vsync turned off. I got the same result each time.

Before I bought the Laptop, I entered it specs here howmanyfps.com. It calculated that I would get 138FPS on high settings. Have I made a terrible mistake ? The gaming score at user benchmark is 73%, so it can't be that bad right ?

Probably your ram is the cause of the problem. Try to add 8 gb rams to your laptop. Also run the game only. No background apps like chrome or discord. Just the game.

I also run the game with 8gb RAM and it runs like butter at steady 60fps.

My next guess would be your video is running off of the i7 and NOT the 3060. Or you do not have valid nVidia drivers on the laptop and it is using the generic Windows driver.

I do not know how you can NOT be using the 3060. It is probably a setting in the BIOS?

Verify you are using the 3060 in Windows and maybe check for an updated driver.

If this was a PC build, I would guess 130-140 fps (maybe a little more) for a new i7 and a 3060. Since it is a laptop I have no idea. A typical i7 is a 65 watt chip. Your laptop chip is rated around 35 watts. So it may be about half as fast. Same could be for the GPU. But that means you should still see about 65 fps. So I am going with the video issues above for now. Final answer. What did I win :)

So I made sure that the "High-Performance Nvidia processor" option is selected in the Nvidia control panel and not the integrated graphics under program settings for COH2. If it was using the intel graphics I very much doubt that I'd get up to 44fps anyway.

Looks like I'll to have try to get a refund from Amazon and find some space for a decent desktop rig.

Thank you Rosbone and everyone else for your efforts. I really appreciate it.

Make sure power plan is set to High Performance.

I have a 5700 XT and was getting terrible fps with power plan set to default setting of balanced.

Maybe try to reinstall the game. If its does not works just reinstall Windows. Maybe my advices looks hard but worth the try. And also do you got any problems in other games ?

Are you selecting the correct resolution and refresh rate in the ingame graphics menu options?

You must select resolution and refresh rate... 1920x1080 @ 120hz instead of 1920x1080 @ 60hz (or more, of course...) sure you have checked that, but confirm us please.

Only 60hz options are available in the graphics menu. I have it set to 1920x1080 @ 60hz. The laptop has an 144hz display.

I see... maybe the problem is in your laptop monitor config... you need to force it to max frequency:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2OfkJCGkJc

Make sure your monitor is set to the max frequency (120 or 144). Then, open CoH2 and let's see if you have new frequency option visible... anyway, I think CoH2 is capped at 120hz (I have 144hz and only 120hz max option visible).

Let us know!

Extremely weird. I used to have a very outdated i7 2600 and a gtx 970. I'd confidently say that my old rig was inferior to your laptop, yet I could play the game very comfortably without reducing the setting to the lowest settings

OP, is the issue prevalent only in coh2?

maybe a bit late to the party, but anyway:
If you turn down the graphic settings and the fps remains the same, your CPU is the most likely problem.
Try running the game in 720p and if the cpu is indeed the problem, it should still run at the same fps. But a return is not ill-advised anyway, 8 gigs in 2022 is just not enough...

re verify your game files maybe there could be something corrupt.

disable xbox game bar. it does cause problems with some games.

if that doesnt work

then use ddu https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
remove restart re install drivers and try it again.

also download driver booster and check for driver updates.
under game support install all of them. i once had issues with quite a few games with input lag and low fps. installed all the support apps and all my games played perfect.

hope this helps

You could try turning the settings up to medium. There used to be issues with low settings giving worse performance than medium. Unsure if that still exists.
