Pak43: What's even the point?

What's the point of building one when it can be killed even by Major's artillery. Meanwhile all Brit emplacements come with much more health and can be hunkered down. It's a shame this unit is rather pointless.

Depending on the map/mode I find the unit useful. It relatively affordable and it can be used to surprise the enemies armor with a couple of shots.
If it gets spotted it can be countered relatively easy so one might start thinking about dismantling it.
Else one leave it to draw fire from enemy artillery.

Interesting. Did not know that. So pioneers can take it down? Can they set it back up or does it just give you some resources back?

It does not require pioneers. It the ability called Scuttle.
Gun become disabled and after 20 second it is destroyed. Refunds 150 manpower and 15 fuel.

Don't use pak43 on wide open maps. Use it on maps with lots of buildings and shot/sight blockers because pak43 can AUTOMATICALLY shoot through:
Smoke
Sight-Blocker
Shot-Blocker
... meaning stuff like major arty needs vision and sometimes the single pass of the recon plane is not enough as the planes are quite fast (need to react lightning fast). Pak43 will shoot through 10 buildings to fully damage the tank if there is vision.

Major's Arty does need vision but coordinated fire for assault officer does not so it can be used even behind shot blockers.
Major's Reckon planes provide plenty of vision to call in arty even without super human reflexs. Once the major reaches vet 1 becomes even since he gets two of them. One can even decide flight path for better results.
Finally Major himself provides plenty of vision.

The Pak 43 is not about surviving, like UKF emplacements, but about trading. If it manages to ambush and kill a single medium tank, you'll already have a super worthwhile trade because it's dirt cheap. Let alone anything bigger or more expensive. If it dies immediately afterwards, who cares.

because it will break the game if it was resilient to indirects, it would be completely game breaking
but it should get brace, IF it loses the ability to shoot through buildings and terrain.

did some test with major's arty skill on pak 43
vet 0 barrage, 6 rounds, 25 tests:
16 survived, 7 decrewed, 2 destroyed
vet 2 barrage, 12 rounds, 25 tests:
10 survived 8 decrewed, 7 destroyed
imo major's arty skill's effectiveness is highly RNG dependent, pak43's improved durability from recent patch makes it already pretty resilient versus indirects.

Considering the cost of Major's arty it seem fine there are plenty of off map that will kill it reliably.
Apart from off maps there a number of indirect fire weapons that will also get the job done.
(good work on testing and reporting the results)

I know it can shoot twice it's range with attack ground. Which gives it some usefulness.
