Although the replay system creates small file imo there is room for much improvements.
Greatest issue is that one can not roll back and has to watch the replay from start. Imo that can be solved by allowing player to save (or automatically save every 3-5 minutes) the replayed game so that one can start/jump the replay from saved part and no the beginning.
Another issue is that replays can not be used in older patches. This can might be possible to solve with either "replay converter" that update the replay or with adding a "mod" of each patch where player can rollback to "older" version of the game.
Another nice option would be a in game/replay recorded that created video file.

For a while I always recorded games in OBS just for this reason. But some kind of rewind would be awesome for sure. Since you cant look at everything in OBS, just your view when played.
