"I was a Sniper" by MW

For the Fatherland,
I will not hesitate to
kill a man.

Every day men die around me,
screaming and afraid.

Many miles away,
an only daughter loses a father.
A family loses its name.

The man died at my hand,
and I might die
at one like his.

It was a single shot,
that did him in.

Quiet and alone, I wonder,
if today is my day.
Will this be the end?

Is this the day an SU-85 does me in?
