Work on Elite Mod began when Tommy, the creator of Elite Mod, wanted to host a final Frontline Network event with a better version of Company of Heroes. At that time, Company of Heroes version 2.602 was filled with bugs and issues which made the game unpleasant to many of its players.
The main goal of Elite Mod was to improve balance of the game, fix bugs and to add more tactical options to the game.
To put it in Tommy’s words:
- To bring the game to the most precise point of balance yet
- To fix any and all lingering bugs and exploits
- To add tactical options and enhance depth by making previously unattractive options more useful, and dialing back 'overpowered' units and tactics
Ever since Tommy left the Company of Heroes scene, 12ocky, Kiraye and Kolaris, the man who brought the succesful patch 2.602 alongside Mora Failes, have been the team working on the mod. They have worked long and hard and are proud to announce that the third version (3.2 as of this writing) is ready for release!
Here are some of the changes that have been implemented in the latest version:
- Snipers now have negative zeal (radius 20, received accuracy 1.5x)
- M1 garands (rifle and ranger), M1 carbines, Kar98k's (volk and storm) type weapons accuracy vs sniper from 0.75x to 0.85x
- Minesweepers now cost 25 munitions down from 35
- Hedges and hay piles (Langres) are no longer flamethrower proof => object type wood
- Flamethrowers damage vs wood increased from 0.5x to 1x
- Paks, Nebels and ATG's now get a 1.25x speed bonus on negative cover (from 1x for atg's and 1.75x for nebel)
- Flamethrowers now deal small amounts of deflection damage
- Grenades now throw at combat slot building
- Grenades can now harm their shooters
- Grenades friendly fire halved
- FHQ cost from 260 to 250
- 3rd to 5th command point xp required lowered from 80 to 75
These are just some of the many changes the team has implemented to make the game better than its current state. The rest of the great changes can be viewed at the Elite Mod thread here on COH2.ORG
With your help and support, the mod can continue to live on. 12ocky is planning to introduce more balance changes to the game in the future as balancing is a never-ending process. He plans on reworking the British and Panzer Elite faction as well as overhauling the units from Tales of Valor and reintroducing the Tiger Ace. Tournaments using this mod is something that the team hope to see in the future. Not only that, Kiraye is also working on an improved Observer mode for a greater viewing experience. So keep your fingers crossed, play the mod and don’t forget to provide feedback to the mod developers if you enjoyed it!!
