As currently functioning, mortar smoke barrages, special commander abilities dropping smoke, and units' abilities to drop smoke - hereto referred to simply as Smoke - are a rather inconsistent and unreliable strategic factor.
Smokes are intended to obscure vision, purpose being hiding units movement. As it currently works, the smoke in CoH2 simply prevents small arms from engaging enemy forces, but STILL it grants FULL vision of enemy movement THROUGH and BEHIND the smoke, which in itself is head scratching... Not to mention the fact that support weapons, vehicles, panzershrecks, and flamethrowers can just target ground at where the enemy is, whatsoever negating the effect of smokes.
Afterall, vision of the player in CoH2 is restricted to the UNITS' vision - e.g. you cannot see in fog of war, you cannot see behind corners, buildings, etc. Yet for some inexplicable reason, you can see through smoke.
The reason for me being (to some extent) frustrated about this mechanic is that it could add so much strategic maneuvers to the game. In conclusion, I believe Relic's work on smoke mechanics is rather mediocre, and needs additional attention from developers. Unless of course I am missing something here...

Me and my housemates have the same problem. There are many problems with the family sharing when using CoH2. DLC commanders can somehow always be used by all family shared accounts, yet something like the Fall Blau singleplayer expansion, can only be used on the main account. Further more, sometimes the game mixes up playercards and wins and/or losses are added on the player card of the wrong player.
It is just horrible.
You should try the above
but 1 thing i can tell you is that, given:
Account 1 - MAIN ACCOUNT, purchased game, and most DLC
Account 2 - Secondary account, plays CoH2 via family share
THEN:
(1) ANY DLC purchased on Account 1 will be available to Account 2 for gameplay. Includes any PURCHASED DLC - mission packs, commander, faceplate, western army, etc To ensure these work, just play with checking/unchecking DLC on Steam first page - it WILL work eventually
(2) ANY DLC purchased on Account 2 will NOT be available to Account 1. I tested this in different ways, it doesn't even show up on Account 1 list of DLC. I have also enabled two-way family sharing, and doesn't work.
(3) War spoils are NOT shareable between accounts, because they are not technically DLCs - another example is the Decals from Make War not Love, which dropped as War Spoil and which I cannot access on my alternate account
Hope this helps! |
iirc, unchecking and rechecking the dlc will fix the problem.
if that doesn't work, you may also want to try starting the game after unchecking the dlc, close it, then recheck them.
Thanks man i really appreciate it
It worked. Had to de-select all of the DLC, start the game, quit game, select all of them back, restart the game.
a pain in the ass because I pretty much own ALL commanders, skins, and faceplates on my main ![:) :)](/images/Smileys/smile.gif) )) |
I have been using family share to play CoH2.
I re-installed CoH2 and now for some reason the purchased DLC from my main is NOT available on this secondary account. All DLCs boxes are checked in View Downloadable Content in Steam...
Could you please tell me how to fix this? |
I don't think it's possible as Steam now thinks you own CoH2 on account2. You could try to deselect AA in the DLC box below achievements but idk what good that'll do. A third account could possibly work but the DLCs won't merge. You would have to share with account1 (account1 alone) to play the game normally and share with account2 (account2 alone) to play AA.
thanks
in case u have ardenne assault, can u tell me how it works in-game?
is it part of the theater of war? or is it a separate game altogether? or how does it work?
thanks! |
For reasons not relating to CoH2 I have switched my gaming to an alternate account (new steam account, call it account 2). I used family share to play CoH2 from account 2. All DLC (but no warspoils) from Account 1 were functioning just fine on account 2.
10 min ago, I purchased Ardennes Campaign on Account 2. What it did, it pretty much overrode my CoH2 game which was shared from Account 1, and I can only play the mission now.
Is there any way I can get the game shared back?
Please advise! Thanks! |
Hi
I have only recently started focusing on 1v1. Between this and my other account, I have around 1.8k hours of game play. But only after playing some more 1v1 I came to realize that I suck at the macro game.
My micro game is superb, not going to be humble or anything...
- all 10 number keys assigned to my most active units
- use all hotkeys in the game (grenades etc)
- can insta-dodge nades because I never mis-select units
- I even micro my tanks ALL the time to speed up angle selection (that is U in the right derection, so that the gun faces the target and I don't get ring-around-the-rosed)
- I can even bait enemy tanks shots (or force turret rotation) while my tank goes peek-a-boo from bushes
- When enemy is bombarding my base or forward headquarters when I'm healing my units, I take 2-2.5 seconds at most to move all my units out of the danger zone (in different directions that is) without panic retreating or blob-moving them
BUT THIS DOESN'T MATTER because I suck at the big picture
- often get flanked
- can't guess the enemy movement
- don't know when to play passive when aggressive
- always get territory/cut-offs taken away
- often get baited into traps
PLEASE PLEASE give me some advice on HOW to improve my 1v1 game. I watch the Propagandacast but it's not helpful. I might start watching some replays of my own but I wouldn't be able to tell if I'm having a bad game or just my opponent is too pro.
Sad face |
then how? I want to play with soviets-ostheer.
anyway, when i first shared, it was 18 month ago.. then you only could share faction and the singleplayer..., but not the ToWs,commanders,skins..
just like the man above said - ALL PURCHASED DLC are shareable.
War spoils are not DLC, and they "drop" to one account only. In other words, i can get war spoils drops on my original, and any smurf accounts.
content for which you paid is shareable with family share regardless of its type - ToW, faction, commanders, skins, plates |
You can only share factions, no commanders-skins...
but also i have OKW on my (now) main, and have eastern front on another, and cant share those, so i cant play ostheer, soviets. Which is bad.
sorry mate but thats not true
You CAN share DLC purchases - ANY DLC - can be commander, faction, skin, faceplate.
War Spoils Drops are NOT shareable. Maybe you just didnt buy the commanders, just got them as drops... |
Hello
I have over 2k hours on my main account (to which the game is registered to, as a purchase, along all the DLC in the game). For reasons not related to COH2, I have moved on to a smurf account in the last 6 months or so (mainly because of Dota and CS rankings). Since I was too lazy to keep logging in and logging out, I just used Family Share to play COH2 from my smurf account.
Now... I wanted to get the loot from the make war not love event, and I went to the website. It appears that the website does not recognize my smurf as a coh2 account because I get the red text giving me the error. But when I put my original account, I got the loot on that original account - but it registers as WAR SPOILS not DLC, which are not share-able through Family Share, only Game DLC is.
Does anyone know how to circumvent this so I can access these war spoils from the make love... event through family share?
Thank! |
