I've been running a lot of my offensive strats using guards. They are okay, better than conscripts that's for sure.
I think it's a good choice especially considering how vehicle heavy a lot of OST players tend to be.... I run a T2 strat when playing guards. So i've always got some supression (MG) down range of the guards so to assist if any grens come at me.
The guards AT and light vehicle damage is too good to pass up sometimes, plus they make very good units to crew enemy weapons with. |
rear is the best, side is second best, front... Don't even bother. |
You've definitley got to connect some form of engine damage. Panthers are dangerous when mobile, but if you stop them moving they are no-so-good.
AT nade or Ram or Button or something like that. Then focus fire.
I've said it in a thread before.... You may even consider not destroying the tank and leave it on the field damaged.... This would mean the OST have to focus man power and resources to repairing the tank, maimed on the field.

I mostly think it's got to do with the map and how you as a player can utilise the strengths of each different Tier.
I reckon if T1 first, you're probably going to want to push for t3 or T4 pretty quickly. A T70 or SU85 can take out the enemy T2 vehicles fairly easily. |
before the patch the ram ability was one of the only ways we were able to keep ahead of the game.... The trick we used was to ram the tank enough to take out the main gun.... Don't destroy it so to keep the enemy's pop cap high, you can do spot attacks on engineers that attempt to fix it.
We found lots of germans were fuel heavy, lots of tank coming on to the field, disabling them and not destroying them meant that the enemy was forced to pump out cheap week units to attempt to heal the damaged tanks on the field. |
I've been running a lot of t2 early game strat as well.
-Engineer squad- build t2- conscript- maxim- conscript- mortar or maxim.
After that it's mostly about a combination of shocks and AT guns.
I've also found myself relying much more on extra ammo and laying lots of mines instead of rushing to a t3 or t4.
I'll save the fuel (mostly) until the end and run up with an IS2.... |
I've been using this commander a lot recently, in our team I find that the abilities very handy.
#1 is the map view. As sighted in the comment above, that move can change the way you think and position all troops.
#2 in my team I play with two tank heavy attackers, so utilizing this ability not only opens up a wider field of visions for KV-2, but also nerfs out on coming tanks.
The partisan troops must either be coupled with a small squad of penals or perhaps even a sniper and a troop truck for speed and replenishing lost troops... the troops are not main inf, this is a spy spec and those troops must be treated as such. Run through side forrests, not right through the heart of battle. |
