Thread: Tactics v. OKW?3 Feb 2015, 02:33 AM For the longest time, if I didn't absolutely crush the opponent in the early game, I always ended up losing against OKW. I switched with some success to using an assault engineer start with demo charges to guarantee squad wipes, and delay the obersoldaten and heavy tanks. This is the only way I have been able to actually close games while I still have the advantage. The key is to put a lot of pressure in the early-middle game and get a couple of squad wipes from charges when he moves to reclaim ground. In: US Forces Strategies

CoH2 lacks a ladder system that keeps people motivated (similar to the Lvl 20 system in vCoH). The ladder system as it is right now does not provide this. I don't think this can be said enough. Back in CoH1, for me at least, it was a big deal when I hit levels 8, 10, and 14. It was a major incentive to win enough to get to the next rank and also not fall down a level by losing. I don't feel the same tension and competitiveness because my Coh2 level doesn't mean anything toward how well I can play. There was also the intimidation/challenge factor of playing against someone ranked higher than you, or the encouragement of playing someone a lower rank, that you should be able to beat them. I enjoyed seeing my opponent's rank before the game, but if Relic really wants they could hide the opponent's competitive rank until the end of the match. As it is, the only indication of skill is very loosely bulletins and "rank" (time played) In: COH2 Gameplay

Thread: Relic unveils Company of Heroes 2 Theater of War2 May 2013, 18:50 PM I'm very excited about co-op missions. I didn't really like the tov modes, and coh didn't give much else besides comp-stomps and 2v2/3v3. In my experience, it is difficult to get a friend into CoH because of the high learning curve. When I was a noob, my friend managed to get me to download JointOps, a co-op mod for coh, and that was the only time where I felt I was really playing with him to achieve an objective, despite his much greater skill. Now that I am much better, I hope the co-op is well designed and that I can use the missions to get my friends into coh. Aspects like "no base buildings" in the mission may help with the learning curve when playing together. With 18 different missions, there is bound to be a couple good co-op ones. In: Lobby

Thread: Verisimilitude9 Mar 2013, 03:17 AM I would be surprised if the campaign didn't give that sense of change in the story, and if the units weren't accurate in time (to a certain level). It is a bigger timeframe, so it may be interesting to see how and if unit composition changes. In multiplayer, accuracy will surely need to be stretched, and it should be more competitive and interesting. There surely won't intentionally be any intentionally obsolete units, even if they historically were so. They could compensate with specialized roles or cheaper cost, or simply exclude a few units from multiplayer. Its a balancing act, but accuracy like that should be preserved if it works with the desired gameplay. Also, Versimilitude. I just looked it up and learned a new word In: Lobby

Interesting that it almost went to Bethesda. I can respect Sega for the Total War series, and would like to see what they will do with Relic. Quote from letter from CEO THQ: "We expect that most employees of the entities included in the sale will be offered employment by the new owners. However, we cannot say what these owners may intend, and there will likely be some positions that will not be needed under the new ownership. You should receive notice this week or early next week if the new owners intend to extend employment to you. While red vs blue feels a bit cliche IMO, issues with colorblindness would be worse, maybe a setting to adjust saturation and color would help. Also hoping the resources gets tweaked more compact horizontally somehow, but we may just need to get used to it. In: Lobby

Just played my first game as commander - there is something special playing commander when you know what its like to be the one running around. Planning on playing it next lan party with my friends . Also thanks for the videos Tycho! Watched all of the marine and alien "how to play" ones and it helped me be ready for online play. In: Other Games
