I gave up on using the soviet scout car. An upgunned German AC tears through them. If he rushes sniper scout car, like Sepha said, avoid combat. If I waste munitions on Fausts, I sometimes can't upgun my AC right away. Just get an AC and watch it Vet up while destroying every scout car he has. |
I almost ALWAYS go P4. It is reasonably effective versus infantry, and you know a tank is coming. If you completely dominate all the fuel and are dealing with massive hordes of infantry, an Ostwind works fine. I say just play it safe and go P4 though. |
I would suggest building 3-4 conscript squads. If you're not seeing grenadiers or MGs at all, and suspect pios/scout cars, consider skipping molotovs and going for AT nades first. Keep your conscripts near each other, but not blobbed. 1 AT nade + small arms fire beats a scout car.
I would follow up by picking a guards doctrine and building T1. If he went T2, there will surely be PGrens. Float manpower after you have 4 conscripts and AT nades. If you're dealing with more scout cars and half tracks than you can handle, grab guards. If you've been killing vehicles just fine, expect PGrens. Build two snipers, keep them together near your conscripts. PGrens walk in, start sniping. He either loses the whole squad after 2 volleys or retreats and the manpower bleed begins. Penals and scout cars dont do you much good, but 2 snipers put a LOT of work in.
At this point, you have a choice between T3 and T4. My rule of thumb is this: If I've dominated the map and feel like I have a huge fuel advantage, I go T3 and rush a T34. If you're ahead, this will keep you ahead because it can deal with infantry whereas an SU-85 can't. If the fuel/map control remained fairly even, go T4 and get an su-85.
Oh, and punish him if he retreats. Attack cut offs, steal as much map control as you can. (This is every game though)
Hope that helped!

Mortars are really helpful on this map. I often run with Guards Motor for the 120mm mortars anyway, and I often go up against them on this map as German. Use the buildings to your advantage. I find this map hard to win if I don't control the middle. |
Seems to be fixed now. |
Good to know its a known problem at least. I'm super jealous of the people who are somehow logged in. |
I'm just curious if anyone else is having problems logging in to the Relic forums lately. For a while it would just time out, and now it goes straight to a 404 page (It says "Mayday! Mayday!")
This has been going on for a while. |
I like panthers a lot. They are certainly expensive, but they are worth it if you can spare the time and resources to get them. The critical element is whether you need a tank asap, or if you can wait. If a 1v1 or 2v2 game is evenly matched, and no one side is controlling the map, you usually need to get a tank out ASAP. In which case I go for a P4. On the other hand, if I have had a very effective early/mid game and harassed my opponents fuel and cut offs, then I sometimes gamble and go for T4 and get a panther.
Soviets have the option of going straight for T4, it's different, but not necessarily better. The SU-85 is powerful, but a well managed combine arms army can handle it.
The bottom line for me in 1v1 and 2v2 is that most matches don't last long enough for T4 and panthers to be what I need. |
