agree with Moscow Outskirt, Vaux and Lierneux. i have not been able to get Minsk after they changed it... i vetoed it because i felt it would still be too small for 2v2.
the things about Moscow (85% open), Vaux (70% open) and Lierneux (50% open) are that they all have a lot of routes and amply sized.
crossing and kharkov, it is even painful to see 2v2 cast because it is just constant clash and so called "good attack" is attacking from 3 corridors that are all from one direction. I also think Across the Rhine is an excellent 2v2 map for its openess and size.
but i do think that bad maps have a place as long as they are not atrocious (Vielsalm, Montargis..). maps like .Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen Refinery are absolutely not tournament worthy. they are maze like, made up of chokepoints. but they are absolutely huge. and that creates these weird moments of cat and mouse game and tension when you dont see the opponents for a while. you think where could they be? to some extent. i think that kind of different experiences earn these bad maps their place in the automatch.
i even enjoy Ettelbruck even though it is cancerous.
So when does maps become so bad that they do not deserve a place?
- Hill331, using extreme height differentiation which this game engine handles with extreme shittiness.
- Montargis, bad resource spread, bad direct translation of coh1 map that had different resource point system (muni hill to fuel hill) that has only 2 access points from each sides.
- Lorch Assault (4v4), when there is not enough space and the castle.... we joke that a map maker made this beautiful castle in the downtime first and tried to make a map around it so everyone can see his pretty castle.
- Vielsalm, ambient mines, forcing extreme 2 2v2s across the map
- Lazeranth Ambush, extreme imbalance.
some maps i enjoy and have good setup are (except for the ones you mentioned)
- Hill400 (3v3 only)
- Across the Rhine (2v2 only)
- Hamlet
- Oka River
- Rzhev Winter
- General Mud
- La Gleize
- Port of Hamburg (3v3 only)

Thread: Please someone make St. Mere Dumont5 Jun 2016, 13:54 PM
I'm currently trying to do that, but I figured I may as well ask since I have no idea what I'm doing and someone may finish it before I even learn how to use the map editor. importing is a horrid idea since straight import does not consider for all the subtle changes that coh2 and coh1 have in between. you;; have to make adjustments and if you are going to do that why not just remake it? for example, FaustCostBulettin asked me to remake Linden so I did and i made the city with much much less buildings and removed the outer walls etc etc. (when i finished, he disappeared ffs) just saying. I dont have my desktop and all i have is my laptop. and since using worldbuilder is like running the game is highest details, it lags like hell for me. so i cant. i feel like i am teasing. |

Thread: Calliope OP?5 Jun 2016, 13:38 PM
This is the unit I personally feel needs rebalancing the most: 1. this is a problem. 640hp with that range is weird. because the range is long enough that calliope does not require extra tanki-ness to survive while barraging. so it works like katyusha in terms of how players move up and back when barraging. and obviously it does not promote good flanks from anybody versing it. i rather make it 320hp or give like 800 or 960 hp and shorten its range so it can barrage maybe about 40 range? a bit like sturmtiger. this argument of 'oh its 140 fuel so it deserves 640hp' is a cop out. when your sov teammate can get katyusha or you (US) can get a calliope, do you choose calliope because it has extra health? no, you choose calliope (when affordable) because it wipes much better. 2. just because calliope is tankier than its counterparts, that does not mean it makes defensive play more effective. i agree having unit wiping units help defensive plays but even if calliope had 320hp, it will promote same kind of defensive plays. 3,4&6. 140fuel is not spammable at all. seeing how as USF, you need at least one jackson plus other AT to effectively stay AT competitive. same damage i am pretty sure. defensive bonuses when retreating is reduced received accuracy which has no effect with any explosives. 5. this is also a problem. I do not want to derail your thread, but this is a part of a much bigger problems, all squad wiping explosives that are almost impossible to dodge. the nerf of 22 rockets to 18 rockets? did almost nothing because calliope still fires 10 rockets in its first salvo which can handily wipe squads on its own. ------------------------ calliope is expensive and not uncrewable which are big things. but no matter the cost, the wipe-ability of calliope's scale is inexcusable. dont blob dont count because it can wipe one squad by itself consistently as well. not as consistently as ST or demo or goliath but still. my friend bhought it so i will try it out too. isnt the full version like 30 bucks in g2a or gog? i mean 15 more buck to skip the grind? its not too bad. and make sure to do the tutorials. they are useful and if you have the full version, you'll be able to unlock most vanilla operators once you finish all of the tutorials. did you put the map entry point from "ebps -> gameplay -> 'map_entry_point" (or something like that) in worldbuilder and assigned to correct players? |
