you guys seem to forget that japan did not really need tanks. Japan mostly fought in a jungle enviroment where it is very hard to use tanks because of no roads/ jungle everywhere/and close quarters combat due to trees being everywhere.
When you are that close even a shitty 47 mm gun can do the trick. And no amount armor is going to save you.
Japan had superior planes than USA, and a pretty good navy, and those are the important things when you are fighting in the pacific.
