Hello everyone, I've been really really struggling on Road to Karkov as the germans. I keep getting pinned at my cutoff, and the sightlines around it are terrible for mg placement. I'm getting run over by 4 conscript > ppsh > guards > T34 build order repeatedly, and I can't seem put my finger on why im getting steamrolled so bad, despite not playing it all that poorly. What are you guys capping order/strategy against this? |

Dude, this link was so cool! Thanks for sharing! |
What are your first impressions, Basilone? I was thinking of getting this game, but I'm not sure what I think so far. |
Yeah I tried charging a penal squad in green cover w/ a full health pgren squad and they got completely destroyed. I was kind of surprised, makes me wonder if penals will see more use even without a buff if Ost T2 ever becomes a little more relevant. |

More and more I'm thinking Jaeger Infantry is the commander to have in your roster to counter snipers. Ambush Camouflage has its issues but with grens you can faust M3's and pounce on snipers from cover.
Jaeger inf is good, but I feel like it needs a munitions cost decrease for the sprint and camo abilities. It sacrifices pretty much all late game strength for some mid game utility for your infantry. That alone is enough of a trade off, ze Germans shouldn't be required to spend their precious munis just to make their commander choice useful. |
I have been thinking about this thread and I have concluded Relic is in a tight spot. If they show off ranks (whether skill or time based) they may encourage quitting which nobody wants.
I'm so god damn tired of the participation trophy society we have created where we shelter everyone from real competition and everyone gets a medal. If they decide to drop every game against an opponent of a higher skill level then screw them, let them quit and continue to blame matchmaking, balance, and whatever else they want to QQ about. Its pointless to cater to these people, as they won't help the game improve/grow in the long run.
Honestly I don't mind not knowing my opponents rank because I play to win regardless of my match up, but it does take some of excitement out of getting matched with someone of a higher rank than you, because you know you have an opportunity to jump in rank.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could follow your ladder rank IN GAME?!?! It just feels silly to have to go to a 3rd party site (I love you guys and this site, btw) just to see where you rank among your peers in what is supposed to be a competitive game. I think the COH system worked beautifully, it gave you an idea of your opponents skill level. If you got matched against someone with a higher rank than you, get ready to rumble and give it your best shot. If you got matched against someone lower rank than you, its your balls on the band saw. You lose? Taste the defeat, lose some rank, and let that be your motivation to improve. Having the visual icon in game next to your nameplate on every single game you played made it actually worth something. Now its just whatever. The vCoh system was much, much better for encouraging competitive play, and I don't think it would discourage casual players either. If Relic was concerned about casual players being turned off by getting ranked against higher level opponents, they could just create a lobby and let people play against whoever they want. I don't even think it would be difficult to implement. I don't understand why they have the current system in place...Relic, I love your games, but you frequently leave me scratching my head. |
Mate think about it - the beta we are seeing on these videos was before the beta open to everyone to play. we played the new version of the game not the one shown on the vidoe, the version that is the inferior version to the game shown
As soon as i played the beta of coh2 I knew something was wrong, it felt nothing like coh nothing at all.. the movements, the way squads died ect it was all wrong, and when watching those casts it all looks so similar - it didn't click to me fully until now
Watch any og the old casts, none of the issues we knwo are there, no one shot squad wipes, or random deaths, perfect retreats, vehicle movement is great and so is the depth to armour combat all the effects are different man its crazy
Look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7eN0Fol8Hw 44:30 thats all u need to know to see the game was much different, look at the way shocks and grens fight and the nade effects - different game
I've watched the videos, and the physics you talk about are still in the current game. Bodies fly in the air and limbs go all over the place just like the bundle nade in that vid, you just have to have a good cpu to max it. |
As far as balance and input lag are concerned the version we have now is a much, much better experience for me. The battle servers have made command lag almost a non-issue, and has made micro feel rewarding and great. Can't say the same for the beta. Perhaps if you had an amazing computer and connection it would run smoothly like in the video, but I think for the vast majority of people the game runs much better now than it did then. |

I never condemned Ubisoft for taking down the servers. I may have said they were the ones to pull the plug, but in the end it wasn't their responsibility to provide those servers. The bankruptcy was obviously THQs fault and its Smoking Gun's fault that the steam version was in such a terrible state for so long. I don't see what relevance that has to this discussion though. On topic, the P2W commanders isn't just a 'good ole boy' complaint, most of the everyday CoH2 streamers feel the same way. And with over 300hrs in CoH2 (I'd wager thats more hours than you have) I'm not exactly jumping to conclusions when I criticize something about the game.
PS: I'm assuming you are talking about OCS, but I'm not even a college grad yet so I don't know where you got that idea from. Theres no point talking about intelligence over the internet, thats like saying "my dad could totally beat up ur dad" because as far as I know you could have dropped out of school at 17, and for all you know I could be studying pre med right now.
Basilone, I was just as pissed off about the commander release rate as everyone else on the forums. I raged about it, I posted about it, it was infuriating. We had 2-3 months of DLC commander issues. Tiger Ace, Industry, Ass Grens, its been discussed to death so I won't elaborate.
That being said, Relic has taken note. They have slowed down the DLC releases, focused on balance patches, and are now working on QOL improvements. They are doing great work to improve this game, and until they give me a reason to believe otherwise(such as going back to releasing obviously imbalanced DLC commanders at a rapid rate), I will continue to support and play their game. Everyone that has been bashing the P2W model needs to play a few more games now that some balance patches have rolled in. The Tiger Ace isn't a faceroll, I WIN unit anymore. Soviet industry actually makes sense now, and many of the strongest, most well balanced commanders are completely free.
Do all of the DLC commanders stink of a penny pinching business pratice? Yes. Is it P2W? No. Your whole point of having more strategic options doesn't really hold water when anyone can field 3 non-DLC commanders that are just as viable in the meta as the purchasable ones.
Would someone please create a POSITIVE post on the steam page about the direction the game is going so that new players don't read all the baddies posts, QQ'ing about P2W cause they didn't know how to beat someone using DLC commanders? |
-German Mines still need work, removing the signs would be good, reducing the damage and cost of the teller mines would also be useful
-The Stug is almost entirely useless
-Ram should just stun a crew, especially when its against Tigers
-Squad wipes for Ostheer are too much, if it can't be fixed then reduce the manpower cost for squads.
- German Doctrines are almost all 'meh' whereas the soviets have a far better selection to choose from.
The fundamental design problem with the germans is there is very little tactical flexibility, the soviets can come at the game in so many different ways.
Says the guy with ZERO soviet games played XD |
