I started getting much better results with Assault Grenadiers, Panzer Grenadiers, Shock Troops and PPSh Conscripts when I realized they are the "melee" units in this game. Yes, you have to get point blank... yes you will slaughter the enemy if you do.
The simple answer: COH2 is all about cheese. You won't find the tactical gameplay of vCOH here.
Man, these rose tinted comments never get old. Maybe one of these days people will accept that coh2 is not meant to be vcoh 2.0. If you can't see the tactical side of coh2 then you aren't really paying attention. All of the tactical elements of vcoh exist in coh2. If anything, coh2 is lacking in the strategic department. The current meta restricts teching options (or teching at all tbh) and the linear commander trees limit strategic options. If your going to bash the game, at least try to do it in an accurate manner.
Katitof, are you paid to roam in the forum, bashing everyone who's trying to tell that this game need adjustments ? Your clearly lack manners in terms of putting arguments on the table, instead of being peremptory like this.
These are Katitofs forums, we just live in them MVGame. Your best bet is to either ignore his posts entirely or not buy into his flame baiting.
I guess the takeaway here is mgs should not function too well on their own because that leads to spam, but they need to be more efficient when combined with other core units (grens/cons) than these core units on their own.
I agree with this sentiment, although I don't really know how that could be executed.
Didn't really realize exactly how small this game's player base is until yesterday my friend and I (total scrubs) were auto-matched against Ciez and NSPlayer (OMGPOP?).
Is this game just losing more and more players? I know some don't enjoy it as much as the original, but this makes me kind of worried for the future of the series. Maybe the automatch system is just flawed. I started playing kind of late but it has become my favorite game (without playing any RTS besides C&C: Red Alert, haha). It is kind of funny how small the community is, yet how dedicated a good portion of the members are to contributing towards improving the game rather than rejecting it.
I hope there is a future for COH. Can't say I've been more fascinated with a video game since THPS2.
Just thought I would start a thread for the frig of it.
also, new unit in coh2
There is definitely a future for the game. Besides, if you enjoy playing it, and your getting matches in a fairly timely manner, does it really matter how many people are actively searching? The game is heading in the right direction, and even though the WF release will likely turn the game into a cluster fuck for a while, I'm confident that they will be able to get the new factions in line fairly quickly. I think we, as a community, need to ditch the idea that coh2 needs to be vcoh 2.0 and get behind the game for what it is if we want to see positive grass roots growth.
I actually like the fact that its a small community, because I think its cool to get matched up against the best players in the world (lol) and see how I stack up.
I'd rather invest ammo in an lmg instead of using it for bundles. And what's the point of dealing damage on the move when they get murdered the second they leave cover?
The only reason for me to get pgrens is when I can't/don't want to invest in another lmg gren.
I'm not suggesting you use bundle nades at every engagement, I only use bundles when I have a good chance of wiping a squad.
You could make the same argument that you should invest your ammo in an LMG rather than a couple of rifle nades, that doesn't mean that a rifle grenade doesn't have its uses. Generally speaking, an LMG is going to give you a better return on your investment in the long run than both rifle nades and bundle nades, but if you have the chance to wipe a squad with a well placed grenade that is invaluable.
I think you and I agree that pgrens are a bit niche at the moment, but I don't want to see them turned into terminator squads again. I like their role as a mid range glass cannon. They punish bad play extremely hard by doing tons of dps at mid and close range. I think their issue lies more with the leathality of AOE damage which exacerbates their reinforcement cost.
@ Keitel shrecks aren't meant to be relied on as your primary AT, but they are really useful for supplementing your paks as they are much more mobile and can punish flanks.
I can do the exact same thing with normal Grenadiers for way less cost. That's the problem.
No you can't because if conscripts close the gap on your grens you will likely lose the engagement, this is not the case with pgrens. They also lack a close range grenade that can force squad wipes, and they are not effective at dealing damage on the move. As strategos said, their reinforcement cost makes them a liability due to mines, tank shells, mortar rounds (anything that does aoe damage). In order to get anywhere close to the damage output of a pgren squad, you have to shell out 60 munitions for an lmg, and even then they deal damage in a different way.
I'm not contesting that grens are a safer, more cost effective option than pgrens. I'm saying that despite their shortcomings, they are still quite useful in certain situations.
So tired of hearing about the support weapon issues. The strat is frustrating and annoying to play against, but there are plenty of viable counters. I don't want to see a nerf to their combat effectiveness, because that only means more reason to build only cons/grens. We've been there before, and its not good for gameplay.
I think people are still using them like they would use shocks. Pgrens will beat conscripts in equal cover at all ranges, but you have to use cover wisely. Keep your pgrens at mid range against everything but support weapons. They are also useful for getting the drop on an unsuspecting capping squad while your opponent is microing elsewhere. Throwing a bundle nade and closing the gap will wipe a squad in seconds.
I really like how pgrens function now, as you actually have to be intelligent with them. Please, please, don't buff their armor again. We don't need anymore faceroll units.
The problem with it is that the only reliable counter is a flame barrage from the MHT, and by getting one you pretty much neuter the entire commander. Its poorly designed because its almost impossible to deal with in 2v2 unless you go MHT, and hilariously easy to deal with if you do.
