I actually feel that against unprepared opponents a flame ht is just as devastating to infantry early game as a kv8 is to infantry late game. I think the problem with both flame vehicles is the range of the flamethrowers; microed well they can both avoid getting at naded or panzerfausted so that allows them to cut through infantry like hot knife through butter... sure the kv8 kills infantry quicker but it costs 3x as much and hits the field nearly 3x later so in essence 3 flame hts should kill as quick if not quicker than 1 kv8. I think the lesson in both cases is not to fight either one with infantry; whether you're using shrecked pgs or AT guns against either the flame ht or kv8 than you're playing to your opponents strengths considering those are still infantry units.
Flame HT is only good in terms of survivability at Vet2 but your opponent have to be stupid to let you vet up. Typical scenario is that HT get AT naded sooner or later and/or hit that cheap mine and after that yr HT is history. KV8 on the other hand has superior damage+armor and all he needs to do to back it up against german T3 armor is ONE ZIS gun. Sad but true. |
Soviet players wont meet Brummbar at all cuz whole T4 is useless (due to SU85) right now, maybe except Panzerwerfer to counter heavy mortar spam.
On topic: If I see one player has Shocks, I make Ostwind (no P4) and after that Stugs cuz they work better against KV8 and also against T34s. If there is an SU85 (= every game) on the field, then the only way I know is to build Pak43 and wait till my buddy has Elephant. Otherwise its "GG". |
Dont know about you guys, but me and my friends are playing germans only cuz we consider it as a challange. It is far too easy and boring to play soviets cuz there is too many imba units right now.
Examples:
T1- clown car, snipers
T2- ZIS sniping infantry and arting mgs, mortars, bunkers, paks
T3- T70 sniper tank
T4- SU85
and doctrinal KV-8 and heavy mortar |

Im 2v2+ only player so maybe in 1v1 its possible but in team games theres nope hope of anything like flank cuz russians are everywhere (cons will AT nade you, guards will button you and/or you will pick the best yet nearly free AI/AT mine in game). You will be spotted and when that happen, SU85 will turn and kill you even before you get near to start shooting at snipers. |
Ostwind is slower then P4 so you can theoretically hit and run but once you get AT naded or just have bad luck and his SU85 is near, yr Ostwind is dead. Btw you still have no chance to kill his snipers with Ostwinds cuz if he is not idiot, he will cover his snipers with SU85.
It means you HAVE TO build Pak43 (not that good) or survive long enough to get Elephant to force his SU85 back and after that you can use Ostwind to begin the sniper hunt. |

During the time he can send M3+sniper at you, you dont have 60 muni for teller and even if you do, placing a teller and then hoping he will run over it, is completely random and therefore have no place at any decent game. |
Ehm, gameplay (balance) should be always more important than historical accuracy. If tanks would be historically accurate, it will be totally different game. Also ramming tanks was not so cool and common as you might think, it was an act of pure despair and not something like "hmm lets ram the Tiger cuz why not".
Ramming in current state is stupid and if anyone here think, you can send yr rammed tiger to yr base to repair, then you are playing against noobs. |
I know, PAK43s need huge support in terms of repairs and recrews and It cant survive bombing run (for 240muni its imho fair trade). Not sure but imho if you build medic bunker in range of the Pak, medic will heal the crew. Also you need Ostwind or P4 to help it not to get overwhelmed by infantry. Most important thing is positioning and covering all routes by MGs (MG bunkers), remember Pak can shoot thru anything.
If the enemy is spamming mortars (heavy ones cuz they are balanced right?) and cover them with infantry blob with SU85(or at guns + guards) your only hope is Panzerwerfer (made by yr buddy) but you have to babysit him cuz those heavy martars shells will two shot him (what a joke). Best part is that even from very close range you need extreme luck to kill heavy mortar, its like 90+% chance that one guy will survive barrage and retreat to reinforce.
The Pak wont help you to win the game, however it may help you to survive long enough to call in Elephant(s). |
