thanks for anaylysis and reply! i also gave some thought to this game and yes there is actually a road behind cutoff to surprise soviets player and sweep the support weapons. I should have benefitted S mines as you said and also he was constantly trying yo wipe mortar. I should have gave it a thought and used mortars more effectively as well
Anytime! If you go for flanks try sweeping. Usually if someone is playing super spammy they will mine their flanks. It serves as an early warning system to flip the MGs at minimum.
Do keep in mind that things upper tier players will tell you often reflect what is experienced at higher levels. I haven't played at your level and against opponents that do weird stuff like that in around a year and a half. When high level people say things like don't build mortars that really means don't build mortars unless they have a bizarre army composition or if you're floating like crazy with a strong army composition since you won almost all first engagements.
The Ostheer mortar just makes so much sense due to the smoke and counter barrage if you see someone playing campy. At my level the advice "don't build a mortar" is great advice. At your level you are usually facing off meta strategies which can still be pretty crushing if you don't adapt at all. Once you get through the yucky levels you'll instantly know how to adapt to cheesy strategies and it forces people into pretty meta play. Don't build a mortar also definitely means don't make multiple mortars.
The rule stands, but the exceptions are interesting and worth noting below level 8 and above level 18 I'd.
