I used to think vCoH had been touched by genius. Now it appears obvious that the original game was merely the result of serendipitous chance. They really didn't have a clue what they had done. OF, ToV, CoH:$, 2.602 were not the result of the pathetically clueless scrabbling around for ideas we all though at the time. It was the continuation of what came before. Except without the luck. Fair play to the original Devs that bailed. Their kids have shoes on their feet and the bills get paid. They have never done anything even remotely comparable since and they must know it.
All of which ought to be good news for those of us waiting for CoH2. Despite the apparent odds against it stands as much chance of being good as the original game. CoH wasn't the result of talent, skill, dedication or hard work. It was like Napoleon said about his Generals. He didn't care how good they were. Only that they were lucky.
I read the book after Col Hackworth recommended it on my clan forum.
It is without doubt depressing and bleak but also a monumental achievement. One of those few book I read non stop until it was finished. On the train, at mealtimes, until I fell asleep at night.
Never bothered with the film as, apart from 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', I've never seen a film that is better than the book upon which it was based and I didn't want to spoil the memory.
I'd also recommend another Cormac McCarthy book. Blood Meridian. It's a story based on the colonisation of the American Great Plains and the character of the men who accomplished it.
Poor Symby. I once got a snide motherboard myself. Frustrating? Not half....
If it's any consolation mate. When it was all over it didn't seem that bad. I learned something and felt more confident under the hood. Everyone is going to get a shit deal occasionally and now we've had ours.
Incidentally. I've recently acquired a touch screen laptop. Been rather surprised at how good Windows 8 works with it. Can MS really be getting a clue?
Saying that though I have absolutely no intention of upgrading my desktop to Windows 8 even at the cheap introductory. If I was thinking of building a home rig I'd install a copy of Win 7 now while I still had the chance.
I reckon you should too. Although I'd be interested in other peoples views.
