Because everyone wants to play double OKW
My point exactly. |

The MG34 has no business existing, it is a joke. You only see the stupid thing when there are no MG43s around and no other guns to steal, or the OKW are desperate against some kind of blob.
It can suppress but it is hardly useful when you have better tools like the flak half track, which is actually a useful unit now. It just doesn't fit with the inherently aggressive nature of the team and layout.
That's true. I almost never make them as okw, but it still suppresses faster than maxim rip. |
I am a bit afraid that people have some kind of disagreement about the term 'deep tactic'. You mentioned vCoH2 as it surely had more tactics involved than the current meta. But with 'deep tactics' I think about stuff like Iron Hearts 4 which is probably a really cool game but I simply am too stupid to play it because there are so many possibilities that you have to learn the game for 10-20 hours in order to play it.
This would scare of a lot of people probably, including me.
Let's be real - Most of us here just want some kind of CoH3 with the cover mechanics, good balance, good engine and the 'original CoH2 mechanics' including cover, true sight, blizzards (just kidding), suppression, buildings and so on.
I also am open for new stuff which Iron Harvest will deliver without a doubt. But to be honest, give me a cover mechanic and 'multiple soldier squads' and I am pretty much content.
Well of course. I think a lot of people here feel the same way; it's a very good mechanic system for an rts of this type. You make a good point with the top point too though. |
I literally never build them (mostly because I mainly use airborne, the biggest mp sink in the game), but I'd imagine they can be useful right? And could they somehow be useful against garrisoned mgs with the free nades every handful of seconds. Anyone got any tips? I'm assuming it's smart to avoid the mg upgrade and just get a real one instead, as you can't target it and you could get a BAR with those munitions. |
The only meaningful and useful function for what exists as FRPs would be to allow players to designate their own, or teammates, HQ as a retreat point.
It'd save a whole lot of issues with 2-4, 4-6, and 6-8 player maps with random start locations.
It'd allow teams to support each other and help defend base rushes.
All players, all factions.
That would be nice. Maybe just give a cheap doohickey that can only be setup in the command territory (like an ost/soviet production building) that basically just functions as an frp. Sucks to be the guy who starts at the back of a triangle in 3v3 lol. |
100% okw is easy and cheesy. If you can shut them down early (which is not hard especially as double soviets) it's fine but dare you they reach lategame somehow.
Im always Stunned how easy it is to keep volks alive and vet them up ( coming from a mainly ostheer player). i wish grens and volks would be swapped
Yeah when I know I'm tired and won't have great unit preservation I play okw lol. Losing a volks squad mid game is pretty punishing, but if one actually manages to lose one, then they deserve to be punished. When I want a fun axis game, I play ost and avoid the elefant lol. |
A smart player can time a good barrage as you are retreating. It's true you can change your retreat point so I don't think this is such a big deal.
When I refer to blobs with FRP, I mean it benifits the blob. Ideally if some one has a blob and has to retreat it, the punishment is no field presence for a long time. But with a close FRP you see that time cut down significantly.
I would not like to see FRP go away, I would rather like to see blobbing fixed in some better way. Or best case scenario, the vanilla factions get access to a FRP via a commander pick (balance the Sov FHQ and add upgrade purchase, add ability to command bunker for a big price maybe for Ost? I dunno, just thinking out loud).
So how do you solve the problem you yourself stated? The one where frps basically nullify the disadvantages of blob retreating? |
That's a standard mechanic. Infiltration units will spawn from off map if you click on a garrisoned building. It prevents, for example, cost free scouting of garrisoned buildings in the fog of war.
Yep. |
The problem with that is that this is how old OKW was and Garrison Cheese still dominated them because anyone with half a brain just did the old garrison hop in and hop out and OKW would just blow all their Munis to dislodge a squad for 2 seconds. Personally I liked the idea of giving Incendiary's to SPs during the OKW redesign but SP's already are super overtasked as is. I suppose you could give Volks their old grenades back and give them a separate Incendiary upgrade so you have to at least specialize squads and all your Volks don't become obnoxious the moment one truck gets put down?
SP's being overtasked IMO is mostly a good thing because they're also kind of the best at everything they do compared to their counterparts, except sweeping. I think it would be a good thing if you have to choose between spamming more volks and making a second sturm squad because I think that's how it was always supposed to work anyway. The only things I would do is combine the sweeper and schreck upgrade and make it a toggle between sweeper and schreck, with a marginal cost increase (like 10-20 muni) and make the sweeper like everyone else's (because apparently it had less detection radius), but which also means no repair speed bonus on the sweeper either. |
Yeah I don't like that either. They just need a mobile smoke platform
My vote is on incendiary/wp grenades on sturmpios and an isg smoke barrage. The former would make the incendiaries a lot more valuable, as they aren't on spammed main infantry, but on an expensive unit that you will only make 2 of at the most and that is close quarters, so couldn't care less about whether their targets are in cover (10m rule). It would also mean that volks gotta rely on something else to be effective too, and would open a little more counterplay as you know "those are the only guys with the incendiary." I don't understand why the latter doesn't already exist. |
