Hello there,
I've struggling as OKW on how to deal with soviets adaptability during the transition from early to mid game.
They always start
CE - 5 Cons or
2 CE - 3 Penals - Guards
Then T70.
There's a Clown car here and there, but let's put it aside.
When I see Cons, I field 5 Volks and go Luchs and maybe a Rak if I scout their tech building.
When I see Penals, I go 3 to 4 Volks, MG and Luchs. Sometimes I try to double Sturmpios. They work wonders.
Then, regardless, I play pretending I'm Mobile Defense Ostheer and field a Puma by the time the soviet deploys his T70.
Thing is: I don't field my Puma, I'm eaten alive.
If I field my Puma, I've seen 5 times in a row the soviet ignoring their Light, locking the T34/85 commander and rush for it. I get map control between this and the tank deployment.
Then the SpecOps CommandPanther takes too much fuel, I struggle to much MP to field more Raks or I need to tech T4 and then I'm behind (besides the terrible default TD and Panther). By the time I field a good-enough force to fight, there's already a second T34/85 on my doorstep. Sometimes a SU85 even.
What can I change? More raks earlier seen a bit waste of MP since I'm dealing with penals and upgraded guards, but then, who am I.
There you can see an opening close enough to what I said. I said 2 cons rushing any armor and AT-nading it, supported by Penals trying to satchel. Hector goes for Guards instead, but it does what I had in mind.
The difference is I had in mind the conscripts to rush anything late game and be a nade-throwing-meatshield
The penals op is pretty popular right now
- 1 combat engineer into t1 then 3 penals , so you get 5 infantry.
Its weakness is the slow start and low capping power, the combat engineer is to mitigate that slow pacing, from what I understand.
I was testing a few things and I did actually saw someone using it
- the starter engineer builds t1
- you build a conscript meanwhile
Then you try to lockdown a chokepoint with both units to wait until your first penal so you get things going from there. From there I can get AT nades or even double conscript to hold light armor, skipping T2 and -maybe- T3. You'd be at 1 engineer 2 cons 3 penals. Lend Lease, Counter Tactics and the T34/85 commander worked well here. I wasn't able to get an IS-2 out of it tho.
I've had a P4 rush into this build on Crossroads, I was able to flank the P4 and send it back to repairs with 2 conscript rushing AT nades on it and a fake satchel (the jukes). I could back tech and get a SU76 just as fine.
your opinions on this one? I'm just trying things. The conscripts late game have so much utility that I think soviets shouldn't skip at least one.
Hello there
I've been away from the game for sometime, but today I played a game as USF, where the OST guy rushed 2 bunkers to lock down the left fuel + VP and the other one locking down the flank. I kinda needed to spend 2 to 3 smokes to have a fight in the area. My mortar kinda helped there.
I'm really new to the game, some mistakes will scream at your face, but please don't give up on me =) I'm trying to improve.
Anyway, I spent too much ammo and while I couldn't get anymore for nades or weapons, my manpower floated like hell. I made 2 or 3 extra riflemans because I thought "better use that mp for something", but I really don't know what I could've done. My fighting area felt (felt) too small for flanking, my indirect fire was poorly microed, idk. The pressure really did it for me so I threw the game because I couldn't think on anything.
I took the M10 commander thinking that the OST had an early advantage, so I wouldn't have the time to tech up, while a bulldozer could help with the infantry too. Maybe airborne would've been better or I just misanalyze the situation tho. I was trying to push forward the early game but the MG kept me fighting there so I lost too much time.
Hey everyone, I'll be kinda active on this sub I think =)
Well, I know I did bad micro at somepoints. Bad HMG preservation, bad sniper positioning, maybe my AT weren't on the best positions they could be. I tried to play and react on a confortable pace because I'd screw up otherwise.
Nothing big, but the USF spammed artillery like hell. 2 art. tanks plus a mortar and at some point he could use his barrage from Commander on every engagement. Near the end I bait his barrage, reinforce and go for it, he barrage'd me again, lol.
My Tiger did well, but I couldn't quite reach for the flank, I needed him elsewhere... or at least I think I did, but hey, that's up to you to decide.
Thing is, besides micro failures which I know I'm not the greatest, how could I've reacted on a big picture? What could I have done or should? Because even if I improve on micro'ing, if I don't know how to react to something, I'll get my ass handed to me anyway =)
