i would also like to know this. ive been playing vanguard lately, and i dont find the commandos that worth it. is there a way your supposed to use them, utilizing their stealth? is it the AO with the forward retreat point that makes the ability worth it?
i like vangaurd, but compared to other commanders it seems a little weak. commandos dont really feel that good, i understand deploying them behind enemy lines and then using stealth and demo, but how do u use stealth when assaulting the enemy at the front? |
PS, here is my replay

i just had this game tonight, basically dealing with the same problems i usually have as stated above. please feel free to be as critical as you want. |
as stated in a previous post, this is where im at with soviet reserve army. i dealt 60,000 damage, alot more then anyone else in the game, yet im hanging on by a thread by most of it, barely holding the right side. not to mention, the opponent was fairly new and low level. there are some crafty moments you might enjoy, but im really seeking feedback on my play. alot of my games go like this... i want to not get swept as bad and actually hold my side better. ( to be forewarned, my teamate gallic, started bitching at me, but he was some low level kid upset he lost his army, hes not very good, but just letting you know because i dont know if you will see the typing going back and forth between us. I dont start fights like that in games...)
anyway, thanks! |
good to know about the patch. ill work on keeping stuff veted. im not sure what u meant about shot blockers for ppsh cons. i guess u mean using at partisans to counter stuff around your tanks? i also find reserve army more versatile.
ill never get an su85 to vet 3, but nice to imagine. maybe with reallly good micro... microing a sniper is a cake walk compared to an su85.
and for t3485s, yea wih 3-4 u can do some good. but less, its nothing to write home about, should be already in t4, but there are enough threads about that. i dont want to complain too much i just dont like beig forced to use an su85 as my main tank, it never was that for the soviets in ww2.
i meant t1 as in advanced infantry, i see no use in it. snipers, peanals, scout car... nothing that compares to what t2 gives you.
question, how do u feel about t1 or t2 or both with reserve army?

so ive finally got the nack for this game, i found it with the soviets. the 2 commanders i enjoy most are soviet reserve and frontline, i have an afinity for infantry. at the moment im good at aiding my teammates, but im not posing a great enough threat, the main problem being lack of a good tank.
frontline gets an is2, but i never seem to have enough furl for it, and even if i did, its just 1 tank, usually vs a swarm of almost as good german tanks. combined arms, i know... basically my best weapon is a freaking mine... su 85's SUCK. they are weak, no turrent, no anti infantry capabilites at all. i also hear t3485's arent very good either. shocks are expensive also, and although i like them i find ppsh cons with at nades and hurah to be alot more efficient.
my build orders are pretty typical. 2 mgs, 2 mortar, 2 shocks or 3 cons with 2 at partysans, 1 su76 or t70, 1 kat, 1 su85, which i find to be pretty standard.
i find with the lack of late game punch, it really comes down to securing the fuel and vps mid game, and laying mines/ relying on usf and ukf. maybe im not investing enough in t3? i like the mobility and affordability soviets, but i find myself game after game holding on by a thread, usually getting decent kills, but suffering badly, and usually not veting up enough. i know i havent supplied any replays yet, but looking at the commanders seperately, what would u suggest?
forget going t1, i find 0 use in it, except for fun.

thanks for the pointers. this all sounds right on the mark. i think ill be keeping both commanders in my line up. thanks for the tips especially on when to pick one. sounds about right |
My 2 favorite commanders are Advanced Warfare Tactics and Shock Mortar Heavy, they each have:
advanced warfare:
radio intercept
ppsh conscript sub machine guns
conscript repair
t34/85
iL2 strafing gun run
shock mortar heavy:
shock troops
vehicle recognition
conscript repair
il2 Bombing run
isu152
so ive been looking at these 2 commanders pretty hard, and I want to know what you guys think about which would you pick most of the time, and when to pick them. These are just my 2 personal picks for commanders atm. While they have some similarities, I think both would change your playstyle alot. I need help making sense of the following, because there is alot going for both of these commanders, and I dont know what abilities truly shine.
there is the similarity between shocks, and ppsh rifle upgrade. I like the shocks better and I think most would. they are fun to use and give you one of the best infantry. While using shocks you will still need cons for the conscript repair ability for your tanks. With the other commander, you could run around with more cons armed with ppsh's and repair ability, without the more expensive shocks.
Then there is the veichle recognition or the radio intercept, the radio intercept looks alot better, the veichle recognition cant compare in my opinion.
then there is the t34/85 or the is152. i think we know the obvious choice is the t34/85. however, fielding t34'85s, will still give you less anti tank abilities vs the iu85's. it basically comes down to wielding agressive t34/85's, or iu85's plus a isu152, to snipe tanks from afar.
last but not least is the bombing run vs strafing run. I think most would take the bombing run, but what do i know.
so, we have 2 strong commanders, shock mortar heavy being more expensive but possibly more potent, and advanced warfare, which seems a little more nuanced and tactical. My guess is for 1v1 or 2v2 advanced warfare, 3v3 4v4 shock mortar heavy, what do you guys think? Which one would you go for?

Thanks for the help! I made a new post comparing my 2 fav commanders, id like to hear what you guys think about them.. |
hi all. So ive decided I think I like the soviets the most, I had question on tiers.
is it worth it to go all of the tiers? t1 2 3 +4? i play mostly 3v3 and 4v4. to me it looks like its worth it to go t1 and t2, they dont cost much, I do find alot of guides saying you need to pick thou. Penals dont look very good, a sniper can be nice thou.
Also, ive been playing around with commanders, and am trying to figure out their pros and cons. Shock rifle frontline seems go, as well as guard mortar and guard mortar Heavy. There is also combines arms. These seem to be the best all around, which is what im really looking for. I dont know the details of the abilities thou and want to know what to expect.
-Is the anti tank gun ambush camo good? will it help give me extra damage?
-I really suck using guards, I prefer Shocks MUCH more, however it seems to me guards would be more useful if used correctly. How good are they with the upgraded guns? It seems so many commanders utilize guards, and yet I just cant figure out how to use this unit properly. they dont seem good at any 1 thing.
-Also, guard mortar heavy has the isu152, which I dont think id have a good time with. It looks like it takes forever to get, and its kind of limited. Im bad enough as it is microing a su85 which also lacks a turret.
-Also, the t34/85 seems like a good all around tank, but vs armor would i just be better off with the su85 and learn how to micro it properly?
Thanks for the help. I really want to get my skill up, however I need a solid strat, commander, idea, 1st. i like using infantry and going t1, however I have the BIGGEST problem with tanks...
thanks!

thats very helpful.
i diddnt find any description aboit the m5 reinforcing, good to know. that changes things. i assume its standard protocal to get a halftrack then just for reinforcing?
yeah its unfortunate but t1 does suck for sov, in general that is. im goin to skip it.
guess i just have to learn to use he su85... cause i hate that thing.
ill try these hings tonight |
