Fucking impressive shit. |
what the heck. You manually changed the patch number to the new patch? I don't get it. What would that prove?
Just in case people want to watch it on this patch. Also, if it works, it means there likely aren't any gameplay or replay file changes implemented. |
Here's the file updated to the new 12598 patch:

Should work in the new patch as long as there's been no changes to the game files or the replay files. If it works, feel free to reupload. |
Well, if you look at it from Relic's point of view, they don't really have a big player base, and you need a big player base for cosmetic DLC to work because there's no gameplay incentive to purchase them, so a lower percentage of your players will actually purchase stuff. If you give a nice gameplay incentive for players to purchase your DLC (such as by giving them cool new units or making strong commanders), you're likely to convince a larger percentage of your player base to purchase your DLC.
The problem with the latter model, however, is you're discouraging growth. How many players do you think were interested in CoH2 before they saw all the DLC commanders and the DLC whoring/Pay2Win tags on Steam and in forum posts?
I think if Relic went with a cosmetic approach instead, they would've made less money in the short-term, but the game would be seeing a lot more growth than it currently is. In the long term, I think it would've been the better route to take. Unfortunately, they were probably forced into this by THQ, then SEGA probably came along and changed their policy some more. I would honestly be shocked if anyone at Relic actually thinks their current policy is good for the future of the game. |
Well, I can't speak for CS:GO, but Dota 2 just lends itself really well to the model Valve has taken. Heroes are unique with distinct styles, and their models are generally large enough that you can actually notice the cosmetics. It's also not a historic game, so there's more freedom to create interesting stuff. There are also uniquie game elements that lend themselves very well to cosmetics, such as wards and couriers.
The problem with selling maps is the CoH2 community is just too small. People won't buy maps unless they're reasonable certain that they will be able to play on them. When there's barely enough people automatching to find a game in a timely manner, maps that segment the community aren't going to be successful.
Honestly, I think if Relic had gone the cosmetics approach to DLC right off the bat, everyone would be a lot happier. Make interesting skins, give units custom animations or voice lines for certain skins, sell customized faceplates and base buildings so players can pimp their clans, let people sell custom HUDs. Hell, I'd buy a custom HUD if it fixed the terrible default CoH2 HUD, and I'd buy some cool-looking skins if they were worth the money and came with some cool extras. No way in hell will I buy a commander though. Not going to support a business model that's fucking a game that already has enough problems of its own. |
Give players more options to spend their resources on that aren't just more units. I played a bunch of games over the weekend and I can't express enough how incredibly dull it is that the only strategic decisions you have to make are "Build this unit? Or build that unit?"
The only way you can improve as a strategic player is to figure out the best possible combination of units that allows you to react to the widest range of opposing unit compositions. It's so uninteresting. |
Works fine for me in Chrome. |
Pretty sure you can still get matched against randoms when you automatch as a team and vice versa. Segmenting automatch would increase wait times, and I don't think Relic wants that. |
Hello everyone,
This has been asked a lot, so I want to give everyone an update on the status of ladders here on COH2.ORG. As of the Aftermath update, Relic has asked all partner sites to migrate to a new ladder API. The old API is still semi-functional, but updates will have to be made in order to restore the ladder to its previous functionality.
Unfortunately, the new Relic API is currently incomplete, and as a result we must wait for it to be updated before we can complete the upgrade on our side. Because of this, the ladder will remain in its current state until we are able to proceed. As long as the old API continues to function in its current state, player cards should update as expected, and the top 200 will update as well, although it will continue to display in its unsorted form.
Thank you for your patience. We will update you when we have more information.
A note on -1 rankings and multiple 2v2/3v3/4v4 rankings
With the move to Battle Servers, Relic has segmented 2v2/3v3/4v4 leaderboards into Random (automatching by yourself) and Arranged Team (automatching with one or more party member) leaderboards. As a result, you may see multiple 2v2/3v3/4v4 rankings on your player card. When our ladder is updated, we will distinguish between these different rankings.
Furthermore, you may have noticed -1 rankings on some player cards. In the recent update to the original Company of Heroes, Relic implemented a 10-game ranking calibration period. What this means is you are not able to see your ranking until you have completed 10 games in any given game mode. It is likely that when Relic split team game leaderboards into Random and Arranged Team versions, they put all existing team games toward the Random ladder and started everyone from scratch on the Arranged Team ladder (or vice-versa, starting everyone fresh on the Random ladder, though I find this less likely). As a result, you may have to play 10 team Random or Arranged Team games before you are given a ranking for those other modes.
Note that the method by which Relic handles calibration games is currently unknown. If it is similar to handling in other games, however, the automatch system will take into account a high level of uncertainty for those first 10 matches; as a result, you may have uneven matchups until the system is able to accurately predict your skill level. Please play your 10 calibration games before complaining about matchmaking imbalance.
If there are any questions regarding the new leaderboards or rankings in general, I will be happy to answer them here.
Thanks for reading!! |
Not necessarily. It all depends on how Relic is routing and prioritizing traffic. |
