If you are struggling against MG's, I highly recommend going for a Pak Howitzer since it can dole out a large amount of damage and with a little luck got some nasty wipes against Ostheer's smaller squad sizes. Although it's tempting to go for an early mortar when you see an MG-42, I feel it takes to long for the mortar smoke to drop usually resulting in you having to retreat whatever squads were suppressed. Go for multiple rifle squads and look to spread out but keep squads within range to be able to help each other if needed (mainly for flanking MG's). Rifles should win most 1 on 1 fights with Ostheer infantry so the key is to not blob into an MG-42 and be forced to mass retreat. Plus a Pak Howitzer can be an effective way to deal with an Ostheer Mortar if your opponent opts for one. |
Honestly I think your best bet is going Engineer, Con, T1, M3, Con, Con, Con, Field Infirmary, T-70. If the Luchs arrives too quickly tech AT nades to help keep fuel control. Backteching to T2 for a Zis will probably be necessary unless you pick a commander with a call-in tank in which you can go SU-76. If you play Cons you need to either go PPSh, SVT's, or rush Tier 4 as quickly as you can after you get the T-70 so you can get the 7-man upgrade. |
I too would rather play against 240mp worth of units than 1000mp worth of units. I'd rather go against one ranger than 5 REs but that doesn't mean rangers should be starting unit for USF because they're weaker lmao.
Don't twist my words, you understood I was comparing a 1 Sturm 4 Volks build to a build that has 1 less Volks squad but an MG-34 instead. I feel like playing against Volks spam how it is currently with them having sandbags and incendiary grenades right away would be more difficult than dealing with 3 squads and an MG-34. Typically Volks are cost-effective which is why a horde of them is so strong. This is more of a way to buff the MG-34 to make it more comparable to the better MG's in the game. Obviously the Maxim needs something as well and the Vickers is in a weird place. Ideally, I would like suppression to be more readily available to prevent some of the undesirable blob to the opponents cut-off gameplay that is difficult to deal with. |
Yes because Sturm as a starting unit able to harass cutoff a minute one is not enough, having it followed by a Hmg is what the game needs.
I mean to be honest I would rather play against an MG-34 than against multiple Volks squads. At least you can flank the MG-34 whereas you can't flank the 4 Volks behind sandbags on your cutoff point. Like I said Volks probably deserve some slight nerfs along with Tommies at the moment. |
Honestly I would be fine with slight changes to Volks such as removing their access to sandbags(same with Tommies) and maybe requiring a truck to be built in order to throw incendiary grenades but in change allowing them to build the MG-34 right away. It's not necessarily a bad machinegun but it just doesn't really work when going for Volks spam is more efficient overall. |
They are pretty solid once they get the upgrade, it just comes too late in my opinion. If it came with Tier 3 maybe we would see more variety in build orders, right now I think Penals are still overall better. |
Honestly, I feel like Vanilla Tommies are alright balance wise but the Bolster upgrade makes them far too durable and allows them to scale better than Axis main-line infantry even with weapon upgrades. If they required the Tier 3 to be teched before being able to purchase the bolster upgrade I feel like that would make 5-man section spam a bit weaker. Players should have to purchase weapon racks to deal with Axis infantry upgrades, not purchasing one upgrade and being able to scale into the late-game automatically. |
They are fine as they currently are because they break up the tedium of 4 Volks builds all of the time and I find they work fine as long as you don't only rely on them. With more buffs they would become stronger than Volks and building 3-4 every game would become the meta. Right now at least they are viable but not OP. |
Honestly I would be fine with the two upgrades being lumped together for maybe 90 munitions or so. Would delay STG's if you go for it but maybe it would help out against LV's instead of feeling like you have to go Puma or 2x Raks to have a chance. |
To me the Stuart is fine in it's current state. Decent AI and Decent AT and comes out in a reasonable amount of time. Can hardcounter Ostheer light vehicles and deals with the Flak HT and Luchs effectively. Really only has problems against the Puma otherwise. Kind of wish the AEC was more like the Stuart instead of coming out 5-6 minutes into the game and wiping the floor with vehicles that come way later. |
