Relic veteran Matt Kernachan left Relic to working at BBI as Senior Producer. He was take the lead role to live producing and managment of COH 2 and DOW III. Previously he was DevTest Manager for all relic games since DOW: Winter Assault.
Another Relic veteran left studio and aoe 4 development. Well, WTF happened at relic, that so many veterans left studio in such short time?
They still use Essence? WHYYYYY? It's so outdated that became since v3 a horrible optimized and buggy mess engine. Is it so hard to write new engine for modern systems and hardware? This engine took in january 15 years and they write the 7th version of this pile of garbagre.
Not trolling, and I think interesting post for SturmTigerCobra.
In October 2016 Relic hire from defunct UFG Lead Gameplay Designer veteran Chris Stimson to work on coh team. https://ca.linkedin.com/in/chris-stimson http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,259718/
He was Lead Gameplay on bully 3, max payne 3, sleeping dogs and marvel battlegrounds and famous for creating unique and interesting gameplay features.
Maybe is now relic put competent gameplay lead that may implent many new interesting gameplay unique ideas to future COH games?
A very dedicated designer on the team was trying to reverse-engineer a sort of Classic mode within the existing game - produce elites through buildings, etc.. There were programming challenges that we weren't able to overcome.
Looks like dow 3 became disaster, because relic lost their souce code with all their features, that they working on for many years, and their progammers trying reverse-engineering it, but don't be able. So, Is Game Over for relic? How will they be able create coh 3 without their source code?
We all know, taht relic now in big finance trouble and near to closure, they abandoding coh 2 and dow 3 for thier next project and now people rant about aoe 4 and next relic projects and will massively boycott them. I see problem that people simply afraid that aoe 4 will be abandoding in undinished state withou expansions, or even if tehy finished game and give the game all content and expansions, afraid that relic may will release horrible patch that broke many things and simply instead make horfixes will abandon game. So, I just write here the best way of course for action taht relic may do, if they in big finance trouble:
1)For COH 2, just make final patch that fix all sh!t and broken things that make the last patch for the game. After this many coh 2 fans stop rant about you
2)For DOW III, since you don't have budget, launch site with steam account verification, give for gamers that bought dow 3 before abandoding game sorry presents for relic games or any sega games that cost at least 20$, many dow 3 that rant will become much quiter and many will calm down.
3)For AOE 4, just don't even try abandon game in unfinished state like dow 3 or broken state like coh 2, just don't even try, if you will do this, you kill themselves. If you feel that don't be able to will properly support game, better cancel aoe 4 or give them to another developer.
I hope some of relic employers read it and take this text on a note and talking with relic leadership stuff about it.
See ya later, I wish you all the best and to get out of a plight.
P.S. Somebody delete form title bookmar, I regret delete "Bookmark" word when I copy this title from another forums.
These threads happen. Not just here, and not just for Relic.
I worked on EASPORTS NHL for a year between Relic stints and people were sure that 2K was going to start making hockey games again and EA would shut it down and just focus on FIFA and MADDEN. That was 2012, and they're still making NHL games in Burnaby.
I have no idea what's the situation at Relic. I don't think the evidence presented is proof that they're going away, or one game from closing. But then again game studios close for a bunch of different reasons often without warning. I mean I was at THQ and they invested all their money in a Hollywood director who never made a game, and UDraw tablets and then had to close a bunch of studios because they suddenly had no money for some reason.
Heck we just saw EA close a studio staffed with incredibly talented people working on a much anticipated Star Wars game that never came out. So who knows. That's one of the shitty parts of working in the game industry, there's not the sense of job stability that there is in say dentistry. (Also oddly more biting in game development).
But if I, a guy who worked there for 4 years (in two separate stints) can't really guess what the future holds (even though I know people there, work in the same city and so on) then dude from CA who edited videos for a bit certainly isn't your source for inside information. Sure he's a nice guy, but just like I wouldn't expect to be the authority on what's up with CA, he's probably not your go-to guy for Relic.
The only real evidence in this thread either way is that moving to a new studio is expensive and time consuming. If SEGA had plans to shut down Relic at this point, they'd probably just do their best to keep them where they are. Moving likely means they see a long term future with the studio in Vancouver.
Could that change? Sure. SEGA could invest heavily in UDraw tablets. Weirder things have happened.
And look I get it. The game industry is complicated and hard to understand even from the inside, so on the outside with the bits of information you're able to glean it's natural that you put it together into a narrative that supports what you probably kind of already assumed or wanted to be true. It's the way we as humans work, we're pattern recognition machines.
Edit: Avoiding the double post. Also added "likely" to a sentence since I'm not able to draw a definitive conclusion.
I have never claimed to have talent, so stop libelling me.
Noun, I want ask you, you worked at relic also as community manager on dow, you may say what happen to dow 3, why it has so many mistakes, and why you name not included in dow 3 special thanks credits? Just what to know slighty how looks like dow 3 in teh end of 2014,
Lol I think dark times comes:
They already lost since aoe 4 these leads:
Principal Artist Ian Cumming - Left in this january - 15 yrs at relic
Lead Environment Artist Ian Guise - Left in this January - 13 yrs at relic
Lead Concept Artist David T. Cheong - Left this January - 20+ yrs at relic
Lead AI and Gameplay Engineer Anthony Bergelt - left studio in october 2017, about 9 yrs at relic
Important Generalist Programmer that make many thing for Essence - Michel Schmidt - left studio in october 2017 - 13 yrs at relic
Senior Core Gamepaly Designer - Damon Gauthier - left studio in August 2017 - 13 yrs at relic.
WTF? Why so many relic veterans so fats in less half a year left studio?
