1v1 on Faymonville
This was my first 1v1 in a very long time (aside from nervously facing you
) and I thought I did ok.
I started out really well pulling some great harass with the Kubel. In th meantime I was getting more volks to cap more points. My thought was that I needed more fuel so I wanted to apply the 1/3 rule to the left hand side of the map since that fuel would be easier to defend from my position.
After the first few minutes I realized how crazy different the pacing is in 1v1. As the soviet player decided to get an mg that was getting harder to displace with my kubel, i opted for an IG so I could manage him. I finally decided to deploy my Schwer base in mid so it could defend both the fuel point and the mid VP. However, I chose a little too poorly and picked a very easy location for the soviet player to continuously bombard. I had to consistently repair it with my sturmpios, whom i lost 2 squads to mortar fire. That kind of scared me for a bit, but with both my luchs (which I actually forgot about for half the time it was out) and my PIV, I was able to secure the win.
Some things I need to learn:
*Map placement for deployable bases - in 2v2, it definitely helps to have the bases deployed in a good position. In 1v1, I don't see how I could win without them being in the *best* position.
*Keeping my army together - by mid game, I was losing a lot of infantry engagements because I only had 1 or 2 squads together. I should focus on keeping a larger focus, particularly if the enemy is consistently using a larger force to attack.
*Keep track of everything - I seriously forgot about my luchs. Using it earlier and more aggressively could have probably helped me win sooner. In the back of my head I kept expecting a mine to get laid or a Zis to pop out, but neither of those happened. I really need to be more aware of the resources available to me
