honestly theres no GOOD non-doctrinal sniper counter. JLI and fallschirmjager get the job done, but then again its map dependent. if your opponent is paying attention and their army is nearby, more often than not theyll die without killing a single model.
the luchs is a decent counter to the sniper, however guards counter the luchs very well. you can try to force an engagement so the enemy guards are occupied while simultaneously doing a flank with the luchs to get the snipers.
stuka can also be considered a counter since its fairly accurate however the soviet player can just insta retreat as soon as he hears the sound and you wont hit them.

i didnt know wtf i was doing in the beginning, but we lose a shitton of stuff. we hold on barely and stage a massive coutner attack with our newly vetted troops. also shows a textbook way of engaging an isu152 with volks. |
JLI (and fallschirmjager to a lesser extent) are the best counters to soviet snipers in my experience. however, this becomes incredibly map dependent because you need the sniper close to a building for this to work. on maps like Minsk this wouldnt work at all.
at close range the JLI will make short work of the snipers. You can also kill snipers on retreat with JLI, but just make sure not to use sprint because then they cant fire on the move.
the infrared STG also icnreases detect range but i doubt youd want to get expensive obers in the line of fire. |

you have to prepare for heavy tanks throughout the game. you do this by:
1. unit preservation
2. wiping enemy squads
the more units you have alive when the ISU152 hits the field, the easier for you to deal with it. Shrek'd volks are cheap, durable, and have an AT weapon. You should try to keep 3-4 squads alive through the game. By the time the ISU152 hits they should be vet 3-5. Raketens are also good, but are easily killed by the ISU, but its good to have one or two for the extra tank hunting power. having high vet raketenwerfers will allow you to deal mroe damage and logner range and with greater chance to penetrate.
to get rid of the guards screen you are facing, you'll want to try to wipe squads before the enemy even brings in their heavy armor. Chase after retreating squads with your units to get that last second retreat kill, use fallschirmjager and JLI to cut off retreating squads and cut them down etc. squad wiping in general is very difficult with the Axis but its possible.
If youre still dealing with enemy infantry by the ISU hits, you'll want a stuka and obers to deal with them. to a combined attack from multiple directions, use your stuka and obers to force the guards off, while your volks and raketenwerfers + any armor you might have attack from two different angles to surround and destroy the ISU. Volks shreks actually deal pretty good damage against the rear armor of the ISU, and with 3-4 squads it only takes a few volleys to bring it down.

i post replays every now and then
here are some that feature certain strategies and such:
http://www.coh2.org/replay/21480/jli-counter-sniper-operations
http://www.coh2.org/replay/21476/intense-early-game-action
http://www.coh2.org/replay/21426/standoff-at-minsk
im not sure if these games were after that most recent patch or before, but you might as well give it a shot.
i also stream fairly regularly, so if you see me streaming you can come check out the game im playing. |
ill probably update the late game portion of this guide, its rather short and vague. i'll probably add plans against enemy armor. |
Killed 4 Sniper squads I think. |
