I was asked to review this shit, but I forgot.
Don't hold your breath waiting. |
You mentioned hotkeys, It's recommended to switch your key layout in game to gridkeys and get used to this. Makes the key layout much more intuitive for new players. Would also recommend changing player color and xp ticker options in the options menu. They show different players in team games as diferent colors, and will make xp pop up on dead enemies instead of over your troops. |
It's not punishing enough for Brits and OKW to take heavy damage on their tanks. With OST or SOV you take a lot of damage on a tiger or IS2, they are out of the game for a significant time to repair giving you time to push. Perfect balance there, there has to be a punishment for taking damage without losing the vehicle. With OKW or anvil brits they can repair that damage in less that 20 seconds. It's unsatisfying to play against and contributes to making them much stronger in the late game. If you lose your sturmpios you can just buy another and get the sweeper upgrade. If you lose your vet2 CE or pios you are just fucked.
It's an example of powercreep that needs to be dealt with. You don't fix the problem by inflating the other factions. |
I don't really call punching a brick wall "fun" but whatever, and don't underestimate the cheating Expert AI, it has outsmarted and outplayed better players than you and me probably, and I think fighting against 4 of those is even more if your so called "challenge" than Hans or anyone else from the top ladders.
Playing 1v4 against a cheating AI is the epitome of punching a brick wall. The game is fun versus humans because the game puts you at an even level, only your skill matters. How the hell can you compare the two at all? Additionally, the expert AI may be cheating, but it is not that great in a 1v1. Easily beatable. |
What's the point then? I mean, yeah, the unwavering spirit and not giving up to become better at the game but what's the point when you know there will always be someone or something that will always be better than you, for instance Hans and his superior micro because of his Starcraft like APM, it's like you being in a Sherman against a king Tiger, what are you going to do? Even if you shoot him in the back you won't do anything to him. It's just that I've never understood competitive mentally.
It's fun?
What's the point of playing if you are the best and there is no challenge? It's why people play other people instead of playing against the predictable ai. |
It is reasonable to have the base game be free, with the dlc factions and skins and shit still being for sale. Everybody who was interested in the game has already bought it in the 30 sales by now. Will attract some new players maybe. |
That's a good argument and I don't deny that it can be a pain, but there are ways to deal with it early. If you are Ostheer (or have an Ostheer partner), then you can use mortar smoke to cover your advance and target ground to pummel it. They also have a commander with mortar half-track and smoke bombs at 2 and 4 cp's respectfully. If you are only OKW you can get a Puma out relatively early to absorb damage while you pummel it with schreks, fire grenades and raketens (who won't take damage). The key, if you are playing against Brits, is to always expect it. As soon as you see the Bofors you know what you need to defeat it. Lastly, if the enemy is spending manpower and pop cap on Bofors then he won't have a strong inf/armor force. He will be easy to defeat/cap away from the emplacements until you can kill the emplacements.
Bofors can fire through smoke with attack ground and will kill the puma in less than 10 seconds due to the low armor. Neither of those are effective. |
Starting off for some reason you only have 2 commanders equipped. You locked in your commander immediately at the start of the match instead of waiting, no reason to do this. None of your abilities unlock until 3 cps anyway.
So for this map you know the enemy is probably going advanced cancer. That means probably bofors, very little chance of getting an AEC. Therefore, make 222s. You skipped t2 which is just dumb. It's not worth skipping, there is too much good shit there and it is very cheap fuel wise. If you had gone t2 and made a couple 222s he would be fucked, has no counter to it.
Alright so you are playing the early game with just t1, and using grens and 1 mg. You quickly wiped a squad and the guy didn't really have anything to deal with your superiority, but for some reason you don't cap the vps. That was your biggest problem in the match, you never cap vps for some reason. The guy had very few units and nothing to hold them with. This game could have ended 25 minutes sooner if you just held the tripplecap in the beginning of the game instead of pushing his cutoff so much where the mortar is. You also had a bunch of low health squads and waited way too long to get the medic bunker built, which hurt your early game.
So the mortar is up at this point, and you keep throwing grens at it, this is useless. Once he gets the upgrade from the advanced cancer commander that looks like a stack of bricks on the emplacemenmt icon, it is immune to bullets. No reason to shoot at it at all with your infantry. You didn't have t2 so you couldn't use 222s or a pak to destroy it either.
In the late game you went LeFh and kept barraging the mortar. Doesn't do anything, he will just brace and not take any damage. Barrage his forward emplacement instead, or his infantry. Something to get wipes. You were also floating a fuckton. Tech up to t4, you have 1300 manpower and 600 fuel, might as well get a panther and a panzerwerfer.
Random tips:
-You were capping by clicking on the point in the beginning of the game, move your squad to the edge of the cap circle so you can get a jump start on walking to the next point. Easy to do in the early game when nothing is going on.
-Don't float so much, no reason at all to wait. If you are popcapped and not waiting for anything you might as well tech.
-focus on the vps
-Use cover better.
-FOCUS ON THE VPS
-Blob less, don't mass retreat. 3 Flamerpios in a blob is too much, spread out.
-You had some units standing around doing nothing (mg42) make sure they are being useful like guarding a vp or cutoff
-FOCUS ON THE VPS
Note for the future, posting replays where you are playing against a better player and lose is much more useful. Don't post winning replays. |
Working on it. |
The music for the base factions is fantastic. Better than vCoH.
The WFA music and Brit music is pretty meh though. |
