Strategy should always be map and opponent dependent.

Simply doing "lets go 4 one side" on not aproporiate map/without proper strat ajustements will end with your base being destroyed from side you surrendered/easy cut offs/bombardment by arty spam of doom to death.
Not to mention, once you know your opponent goes for this BS one trick strat as a team, its extremely easy to harass their "supply line" (bottom steppes road to fuel are best example, just stick hmg in building near enemy base exit), killing all retreats and slowing all reinforsements in pointless fights untill their main force would be forced to mass retreat under pressure of your teammates (usually middle player on steppes does that with deep flank against trippling bottom enemy teams). Mines and demos for bonus points and more lulz.

It died when Brit Cancer commander was released and then took months to semi-fix. Then they beat the dead corpse with the USF Mortar combined with wrecking OKW as a whole. I don't see it reviving any time soon.
That is reason why I stopped to play as well, took a break shortly after release of cancer commander when I realised how little skill you need to carry(!!!) your team with it even in top team games, it was ridiculous, just, you know, build emplacements and place hmgs in houses around, done. Uncalled ruination of OKW which srtriped them from all uniqueness and turned into another wehrmacht combined with future buffs to already dominant allies was last nail to the coffin. I think I would not be far from the truth if i call last CoH2 year year of mortars.
Finally, after 3 years Relic got me, and not with their ridicolous P2W commanders, inability to balance game, poor performance and constant connection issues, not even with loses to maphackers but simply by ruining game design, greatest thing in CoH.

And that is why i still play Sins of a Solar Empire, AOE2 and Rise of Nations. Srsly, if you want good RTS, just look back instead forward. All good strategies are, sadly, thing of the past, modern game industry is all about making money on easy attractive games which are shallow but can trive on large-audience hype and not only get away with their lies, but make profit from them by selling cut-out content in form of DLCs(day one DLCs for bonus scum points). Mb we will get WC4 one day, but thats really all i can hope for in terms of really major RTS.
BTW, TW is mix of 4x(eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) and tactical game, hoi and stellaris are pure 4x, Armada and Ashes from what i saw are MOBAs to the bone. |
Best thing is that they decided to close game with OKW ruination(i dont speak about balance, but gameplay, playing 2nd (and much worse) wehr just not fun to me, outside of that OKW could be balanced without destroying its amazing core concepts like resourse starvation and emphasis on elite troops, it just, you know, requiered actual effort), what a finale.
For how much pootential CoH design had, realisation was, and still quite unsatisfying.

telling people to just dominate their opponent and render the mid-late game moot is not a very useful advice.
How it is not? It is how game works. In early game allies have advanatge and initiative, if they failed to use them, they must suffer consequences, plain and simple.
and most people skip the conscript and just buy shock/guards/support weapon instead.
And then they die from mp bleed 10m into the game with such shitty builds? I have both used cons in a past in top50 in 1v1 and top10 2v2 games and had cons used against me with a great sucsess (even conspam into dshk into callin m5 into sov shermans with lendlease still works). They are absolutely fine. Only people whining about them is ones which dont want to improve. |
what we did wrong? the fact that we are still using conscript into the late game?
Failed to inflict significant loses and mp drain in early game where you are much stronger? Failed to secure resourse advantage? Failed to use cons as a support unit for support weapons/shocks/guards which should hold the field? Failed to wipe axis infantry with many tools in your disposal to get rid of their vet and weapon upgrades?
Just first thing which come to mind. |
Cons dont die, their utility is crazy, they available right from the start in numbers, sure they suck in lategame against vetted axis infantry, but if you find yourself in position where you forced to fight vetted axis infantry with cons you should ask yourself what you did wong to allow this to happen instead of creating completely false threads asking to buff already strong unit which perfectly in place. |
Now we made full circle from useless wehr shitty okw broken usf and soviets who always have upper hand since rifles vet patch to this dis-balance again, possibly even more broken and with british addition.

I feel like they need tank hunters obers buildable from hq at the begining, which come with 2 at rifles and can upgrade to double shrecks, their combat stats significantly weaker and vet different from regular obers for reasons. Shreck pios is a joke, and rakketen, while good overall is just not enought to hold on its own even with phausts around and it also killed too easily (bunching, no green cover, 4 crew members).
Or just make obers buildable in HQ, double shreck upgrade after 1truck, 1 lmg upgrade after 2trucks, can have only one; it would open some strat possibilities.
Still, too early to tell for sure, mb its just my first impressions from stomping OKW whole day and in reallity OKW just needs to spam pumas hardcore. |
