What makes a team successful in an effort that is really art? Imo a small team with an idea that works, and then have other people follow.
Having an idea "live" in an organization is a very difficult thing. Refining it (OF) even more so. Very few people have a common idea or theory of what an idea actually is (I really like Max Boisot theory here), making sure it "keeps on going" is something even fewer understand.
It doesn't take the loss of many of these people with "THE" idea before the idea is unable to stay alive, and then the idea no longer governs the organization, but the organizations governs the idea. That's when the shit hits the fan.
OF was imo an impossible job, if the goal was to add something as elegant as vCoH. But killing cutoffs and flanks with Brits was mind-boggling wrong, and "soft armor" PE another degenerative decision - CoH's very innovations were disowned.
Whoever was in charge of putting the right people in charge failed on a massive scale with OF. But that doesn't mean that good stuff like vCoH couldn't happen again. Duffy's still there, from articles I get the impression he's one of the "true CoH" guys.
