vs t34 it just gets flanked or out manuevered unless supported well
and vs su-85 it gets basically 2 shotted

They are very cheap to build, so you cannot expect them to be as good as a P4 or Su85. They own T34s, for cost.

SU-85: 115 fuel, 320mp.
SU-85 has more armor(180 vs 160 for stug), more hitpoints(640 vs 480 for stug) and more penetration(170 vs 140 for stug).
It shouldn't have more range as well. The first three benefits more than make up for the cost difference between the two. Keep stug as is but give it 60 range like the su85, or decrease the su85's range to 50. 60 range vs 50 range is too big a difference especially taking into account the other benefits the su85 already has.
Currently Russians are rewarded for mid-late game camping, and neither germans nor russians are rewarded enough for flanking, be it early mg-flanking, or late game flanking.

It doesn't help much against SU-85 though.

+1 as well. This is the best/current "Overall status of the game". I feel flamethrower flanks are the ONLY flank that is worthwhile (see why Russians still use M3+Flamer).
I think the stug is a good, quick and nice to use when having manpower problems/pop cap issues and need to flood the board more. It does VERY good dmg/accuracy to inf. and i feel it's a 'better version of the su-76'.
however, i do agree 95fuel vs 115 fuel (p4 or ostwind)? i'd rather take p4 or ostwind and wait 1-2 more minutes to get a better 'overall' tank. (Off topic, Ostwinds do some considerable dmg to T-34s, even MORE dmg at vet 2 &3)

It's also worth noting that StuG is smaller than SU-85 (14 vs 22), thus harder to hit.

Su85 hits with almost 100% accuracy (that too on the move) that it puts modern day M1 and Leo 2 tanks with laser range finders to shame.
The best part is that very often the su85 can insta kill shrek teams too. I once sent 2 shrek teams against an 85 and after 3 shots i had just 3 pzg members left.
Not to mention an ANTI TANK gun like a PaK which gets sniped by the 85 while the the paks shot MISSES.
Coming back to StuG ... I use it a little more often mainly since its a bit more effective against t34 spam than a panzer4 but its absolutely useless against anything else and can easily be flanked.

I like stug, ostwind combo more than just 2x PIV. Even better is if you get a pIV added to the duo and make it a very robust trio. Combined arms ftw!
AND by then your opponent has got 3 X SU85 which means you can just surrender.

Yep, sounds like a usual 1v1. Osts are effectively trash the moment SU-85s hit the field. Panzer IVs with pro micro can still be useful....StuGs? Ha ha...ha....
