Ladder percentage just... stupid

I have criticized this forum for it bizarre and unintuitive topic names before - and coh2.org (and Relic?) has chosen to continues this trend on the new ladder section...

The ladder contains the % win which leaves you with a weird number like .785. I'm sorry to say that most people will find this interpretation of the win/lose ratio unintuitive and confusing.

Why not make it simple and understanablae so most everyone understands the win/lose ratio? Like 20 wins and 10 loses = a ratio of 2:1. Or maybe just write % like you would normally do "win ratio: 93,3%. Way easier to decode imo.

Anyway I am not surprised as the game and this forum somehow refuses to build and improve on previously tried and testet solutions that clearly work.

Ironically, just to reference your own topic name, anyone who wouldn't have been able to figure that out.... also stupid. However, it is common knowledge to those of us who are less stupid that most people are stupid, therefore not catering to this group may also qualify as being stupid, sure.

I would now like to point out how stupid this entire topic is.

Haha you guys... I get the percentage - you get the percentage. Good for us - but it can be done smarter and more intuitive... And I assure you that some people and especially younger folks will have trouble decoding the way win ratio is displayed atm.

I have no clue whats unintuitive at reading that someone wins 85% of his games. And it seems like steger is the only one in this thread who has this problem.

Personally it makes no difference to me. Steger may have a point that it is easier for people to make quick sense of it if they are still not yet proficient with math, but I think most of those people will still instinctively figure it out once they see their raw win/loss ratio count.

The ratio displayed as .### comes from the tradition of expressing hitting statistics in baseball in the same way.

See? Now that we have the stats, season 5 of SNF can just be a debate between COH2 sabermetricians, appointed to argue that player X will (or will not) beat player Y in a theoretical match-up, and there will be no need to actually schedule, play, or cast games.

basically, like with a lot of other stuff, in america things are handled differently (temperature/distance measuring for example). in most european countries percent is commonly used, whereas in the US for example the ratio is commonly used (especially in sports). the only thing about this that REALLY is inconsistent, is that the US usually calls the ratio "win percentage" when it really isn't. once you've come to accept the fact that in a world that is dominated by the US, the internet is dominated by US conceptions of things, you will learn to understand stuff like this.

since the win percentage is simply the ratio multiplied by 100, a person with 0 losses (and more than 0 wins) would have a ratio of 1.000 and a win percentage of 100% (@Seb/GuruSkippy).

imho, nobody here is stupid (neither the ladder, nor OP), except for maybe the guys that call other guys stupid.

Its not simply the win/loss ratio multiplied by 100. That would again lead to infinity in case of zero losses.

Percentage is wins/(wins+losses) = wins/(total number of games). This one is superior to win/loss ratio due to the reason mentioned by Seb. It cannot grow to infinity but is limited between 0 and 1.00
