I've had a few fun conversation with friends over the pickups and upgrades that you can get for all the infantry in the game. In the end, we all had a few of our favorite setups that is possible in the game but rarely ever occurs/preserved.
For example, I personally really love it when PPSh conscripts get their hands on a flamethrower. It absolutely melts things at close range, and since it has a flamethrower, the attack command is set to the perfect range by automatic, thus making it all the less micro intensive.
A buddy of mine preferred heavy sappers from the hammer mixed with an LMG34, but I'm not sure I've ever actually seen that happen.
What about you guys? Care to share?
