I just had a long session of brainstorming and finally came up with a solution which could solve the mortar pit problem once and for all.

First let's define the problem.

• The mortar pit can hide behind buildings protected by vickers,
  
• the mortar pit is immobile and a target practice for leig
  
• the mortar pit is too durable
  
  

In order to get rid of all those issues, you can now upgrade the mortar pit with a flying carpet. The upgrade allows the pit to fly to the sky and change its location. How does this ability solve the aforementioned problems? Here's how;
