Could use a bit of help with my 1st map.
We and a mate play the 2 of us vs 4 ai, so we like maps with bridges and choke points. Playing around with all the custom maps has made me want to give it a shot myself.
I've read/watched a few guides, but right now I'm stuck on the simplest part, the layout.
How big should I make the map, with it being a 4x4 for what I want to achieve?
In the world builder I'm having trouble getting a sense of scale, how big should I make the starting area and the islands?
I appreciate any help.
Making my 1st map

It really depends... A good frame of reference is that the USF base takes up one whole 32x32 grid block. For a 4v4, that will take up 128x32 on one side just to cram those bases together.
So, assuming the green section on the edges are the base sectors, those should probably be given a good buffer of space around the base so units can move around.
Bridges vary pretty considerably in length, so that's another great frame of reference to use to see how much space you'll need. After all, your map design is limited to the tools you have at your disposal. Find the bridges you want to use first to figure out how wide these waterways are.
That said, just by looking at it and making some rough estimates, 640-896 x 256-320 playable area would probably fit everything in there. That's playable area, not map area. You'll want the map area to be larger so there's room for an Out of Bounds area.

this is a great resource.
But to get started, this should be your first read: https://www.coh2.org/topic/10406/how-to-set-up-a-coh2-multiplayer-map
Also in game, it tells you the dimension of maps when hovering over.
