It looks great so far. I love they way they changed up city building with districts. Building and improving cities was always the best part about the series, imo, and the added depth to that is really enticing for me.

This game will certainly provide some much needed relief from the steaming pile of BS that is Coh2.

And I will bet no one will refer to any feature as CANCER.

Well, why would they? They'd be too busy calling Gandhi a nuke-happy nazi.

Played for about 4 hours so far, the new mechanics are great. If you were interested at all I say go for it, the game feels complete without lacking mechanics unlike civ5 on release. It does not feel like a downgrade from civ 5, the improvements justify the game.

Things they need to fix:
-ui is pretty shit
-ai does some weird things. I wouldn't call it bad, because it is a pretty strong opponent still, but where and when it decides to found cities and how they move their units is really strange.

Indeed, pretty good first few hours for a civ release!

I did have some recurring crashes though in longer game (after turn 300ish with 6 players) but at least there is autosave.

Otherwise performance it's really good, it felt better than civ5 in late game. The game is still responsive while it's the IA turn, that really makes a huge difference.

As for gameplay it's pretty much all that was expected from pre-release info.

Maybe playing wide is a bit too OP though if not completely required.

Btw you can somewhat stack units again, there's also a merge option for units of the same type.

Overall a good game, spiritually not that far from 5. If you are short on budget it's probably still worth playing 5 and waiting for 6 sales/expansions.

There are definitely things that could and will be improved over time such as mentioned, IA (I still need to test the top difficulties but in prince/king it was really too easy), UI (in general I like it except that some important features are too hard to find), some buildings/districts that feel much less useful than others, ...

Keep in mind this is also a quick review after only a game.

Both in top 10 now that's something. And pretty much the first time the 5 is so slow since its release!

6 players!?!

was it laggy? like civ5 or is it a huge improvement.

I've been only able to game with one other person and lag, delays and bug are much less common than civ5.

the only problem is that they removed the Ping of the players while creating the game thus making it hard to have a fast game (slow net slows the whole game sadly)

otherwise it is good

I recommend anyone starting this series (or even going 5 to 6) to watch a beginners guide (usually about 20 minutes long) just to get you up to speed on all the new mechanics and features. So far I've thoroughly enjoyed the game but there is much to learn.
