Any way to make Assault Grens useful?

When I started playing COH2 I immediately fell into the noob trap of "omg Mech assault so gud". It worked for the first few 1v1 opponents and it seemed almost like a pay-to-win doctrine at the time. Scrub after scrub would fall victim to the early game assgren masterrace! Ofc when I went up against decent players it stopped working.

At the moment, I can't really see a compelling reason to go assgrens instead of grens due to scaling issues, no AT weapon, etc. you all know this stuff.

So how can this unit actually be made useful? Buffing them would probably make them too strong in the early game. Perhaps severely buffing them or reworking them and moving them to 2cp, thus turning them into a wehr equivalent of shock troops?

Thoughts?

It's okay to get one squad on a close range map. The sprint and grenades are pretty good. Would never get more than that though. I find it more useful to just not get them and get a surprise Stug e instead.
